Hear me out both sides

Created by: Boomer125

Initial Creation Date: Aug. 24, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Oilers want a starter but Koskinen is an expensive backup (He's a 40-50 game goalie you need a 60 game goalie) they also have D depth and need winger depth so they swap Larsson for Johnsson

Leafs have Campbell and his acquisition costs and contract say he's playing 25 - 35 games so I'm looking to keep my goalies at under 7 million combined and run a 50/30 split. Leafs need money out on F and players capable of Top 4 D.

More would need to be done by both teams else where but just my thought on how both teams could help each other

Larsson for Johnsson im good

Freddie for Koskinen hard pass. Koskinen is older and Freddie is the better goalie. Yes he chokes game 7's but does well in most other games.

Meh not too bad but I know this isn't relevant to the trade but like Mikheyev is going to want at least 1mill more

He may want, but it isn’t there. Should be a 1 year deal.

I would do Kapanen and Andersen for koskinen and Larsson 1m retained. The term is a bit lob sided though.

You make the money for a guy like Mikheyev, y'all are lucky he got injured cuz he would've gone on a full on tear and wanted 6 million or something, get the man paid a lil bit lol

he went on his tear at the start of the season then significantly cooled off before he got hurt and then looked awful in the qualifying round. He didnt earn near that.

Koskinen had a better SV% and GSVA than Andersen this year. This doesnt make sense for the Oilers

Koskinen is better at stopping pucks, but Freddie is the better goalie?

Let's trade Freddie for a guy that had much better statistics than him, and then expect the Oilers to accept.

Play Koskinen 60-63 games see how that goes, the chances the Oilers give up Freddie is the guy who stops that puck over Koskinen

Leafs wouldn't take on the Koskinen contract, even if it meant adding Larsson.

why would we play any goalie 60-63 games. The obvious solution for the Oilers is to find a 1B goalie like Khudobin or Greiss in FA. Not finding a goalie who's worse at stopping pucks but can apparently play more games

ah yes, "much better". you mean the 0.06 better save percentage while facing over 400 less shots in 900 less minutes?
Should we mention that this is Freddy's worst season ever at 30 years old and spent a good hunk of time playing with and then recovering from an injury ? Or that this is Koskinen's best season ever at 32?
sure, ok

He played 39 games in which he was highly inconsistent. Then suffered a serious injury that has implications on his entire career, which some people thought he might never play a NHL game again. Came back and played 5 play in games in which he was basically invisible..

Most he gets should be a 1-2 year deal around what Engvall signed for ($1.25M). It'll be a show me deal and if it goes wrong it's easy to bury in the minors. There's absolutely no justification to sign him to anymore

Freddie has one year left though and will most likely be demanding a raise, which the leafs cannot afford to do.
Adding to there D core with 2 better D man in the AGM would help the two golaies they would have.

so they get an older worse goalie that is signed longer while he gets older and worse? They're better off taking their chances with Freddy next year and the goalie market during the expansion draft than they are locking down a then 33 year old not good goalie

He's not a bad goalie. and with the cotracts they have they have to cut down on cost. Freddie is going to cost lots, and just like any goalie in the free agent market typically cost.
The last two years in the playoffs the final 8 teams have not had one guy paid over 10 mil. That's what is going to hurt the Lefas in the long run, and really I think they need to stregthen there D somehow whihc I think we mean they will need two average goalie and hopefully one gets hot at the right time.

he's not a good goalie. He's a goalie who had a decent, and possibly career year at an age that is often reserved for guys on their career downswing. If the Leafs are looking for a guy to be even an average goalie in the near future, then gambling on Koskinen would be a terribly risky bet

Koskinen is signed 2 years same as Campbell, buys the Leafs a year and teams will be moving Goalies for the expansion draft if the tandem isn't favorable
