COL will re-sign him before he can even be offer sheeted. And why would he leave them? They're Cup contenders/strong team for the next 6-8 years

Is lots of money a possible explanation?

No use not trying though! smile I think it's fun for armchair GMs to dream. I would LOVE to have Makar on my team. The Aves are the envy of the league right now and I would be stark-raving baffled if they don't win at least one Cup in the next 5 years.

    Funny thing is:
    - COL was favourite to get 1st overall in the 2019 draft (OTT pick from Duchene trade) and slipped to 4th and got Byram
    - COL was favourite to get 1st overall in the 2017 draft (finished last in league in points) and slipped to 4th and got Makar

Yes, they were lucky in getting both Makar and Byram, but they were also very unlucky, not getting 1st overall pick both times

It's just crazy! This is just my opinion, but I think Makar will easily go down as the best player from the 2017 draft. And while it's early, I think Byram has a great shot at being at or near the top of his class. They're both lucky and unlucky, but they dodged a bullet with that 2017 draft (though Heiskanen, Pettersson and Suzuki are looking great, too). They're the definition of stacked, not just now, but long term. Great GM, btw.

That's on Makar. Does he play with an elite team for $1-2M less or does he play with a mediocre/good team for more money.

Looking at 2017 draft, only players Id consider on Makars value, Pettersson and Heiskanen
2019, way too early to say (I wanted Dach/Cozens personally at 4th at the time of the draft)
