Jets will run with Samberg at 2nd pairing LHD.
Other than hopefully re-signing DeMelo, the only D WPG might look at is a 1yr contract on a cheap bottom pairing LHD vet.
With the ED coming up, it makes no sense to get a top 4 player we can’t protect.

But if we sign a free agent D and lose them in the expansion draft it will at least give a year for the young guys to transition and not be thrown right in

Pretty much every dman in free agency other then Pietrangelo and Krug will have to deal with the expansion draft factor, unless they all sign one year deals it's the risk they take that they may be Seattle bound if they want term, there's more UFA D then there is protection spots I'm guessing.

I agree about Samberg, I think he was basically promised that spot to convince him to sign, wouldn't be surprised if the Jets D core is exactly the same as it was against Calgary with the only difference being Samberg in where Kulikov was partnered with Pionk.

JoMo-DeMelo, Samberg-Pionk, Beaulieu-Poolman

He might be idk, probably is but would they start him on the 3rd pair with Poolman? I'd think they'd sign a vet like Beaulieu again or just bring him back and what about Niku, I really get the feeling Samberg was promised a spot so unless he has a brutal camp and preseason I really expect him on the team and depending what their plan is with Niku I think that Heinola's waiver exempt status might make him Moose bound to start the season.
