Trades
1.
PHI
  1. Johns, Stephen
  2. 2020 4th round pick (DAL)
  3. 2020 6th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
A UFA to be, strong, big, crease clearer, steady vet on 3rd pair, PK, remains an injury concern.
DAL
  1. Gostisbehere, Shayne
Additional Details:
Bad year/injuries and surpassed by Provorov and Sanheim in top 4 at LD. Not a fit in Philly with 4 other dmen with 25pt+ capability and LD prospects on way. Only 2 seasons removed from 65 pt season and has looked solid now healthy. Signed reasonably for 3 more years.
2.
PHI
  1. Wood, Miles
  2. 2020 4th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
Solid bottom 6 player but at 24, this looks like hes reached his potential
NJD
  1. van Riemsdyk, James
Additional Details:
JVR is still a 40-55pt scoring forward with size, perfect for Hughes/Nico, and just 1.5mil overpaid. PHI has Giroux, Lindblom, Farabee at LW. He goes home
3.
PHI
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
Additional Details:
Flyers need speed, and they love the last name. Kapanen in a more defensive system, is still probably a 35pt+ forward and has the higher offensive upside, but again Flyers need speed.
TOR
  1. Laughton, Scott
  2. 2020 4th round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Laughton is a gritty two way player, who can play all 3 forward spots, win faceoffs, hit and fight, IMO what Leafs lack and brings more snarl/skill/two way play. Even in 3rd line duty he scored just 9 pts less than Kap in 20 less games.

I like what you've done here, but I worry about to grit/physical ability of this team. Imo they take a step down after the moves. Only Johns brings some physicality to some extent, but as you claimed he's an injury concern.

Pretty good

DAL probably accept. Heiskanen can play on is offside, leaving a spot on the top 4 for Gost until Harley is ready for top4 duty

But if I’m Fitzgerald I’m asking a good pick/ good prospect for taking JVR and sending Woods who has value.

Can’t see Toronto accepting that, Kapanen is a good 3RW on a good contract. Send another good piece with Laughton and Dubas probably take it.

Thanks,

Agree its a concern, but wood and johns bring more some size and physicality. And Johns is a 1 year solution before wylie/zamula/York/UFA arrive. If Ghost is moved for picks then theres plenty of UFA RD options (Shattenkirk?). And Allison/Ratcliffe are on the horizon. Frees up cap space, is pretty safe in expansion and only sanheim/hart as re-signs next year (with raffl/Elliot/niskanen coming off).

But at some point there will be other movements based on the good or poor progression of farabee, lindblom, TK, wood, kapanen, or the regression of Giroux/voracek and the progression of Allison/ratcliffe/frost/brink/etc...

Woods is a nice bottom 6 guy, (a tad overpaid), but JVR still has oodles more value, his salary based on production is out by 1-2mil or so, (although same could be said for wood) and his size and game (at least not in these playoffs) is what NJ needs. JVR still produces, so hes not a pure cap dump

Kapanen is a good bottom 6 guy in TOR, but Laughton is more of what they need, I think if PHI adds its not much (a 5th or less), and laughtons style, faceoff ability, 3 positions offsets Kapanen's offensive advantage. The pick makes up for age difference (Laughton is only 26).

If Sammy think it’s fair, it’s fair. NJ have a ton of cap space and you are right, they get a better player, just more expensive

Even with Miro on the right, Dallas has Lindell and Oleksiak on the left. I’d rather extend Oleksiak and it isn’t a tough choice

Devils cap space is one of their best assets, not worth taking on a JVR's contract in full even though I agree he is a good fit. Trade could work but Philly would need to eat some contract or add in a sweetener prospect/pick to make it worthwhile. Like the idea though, could work.
