My honest guess. GMJR has a trade lined up where he gets a first for a goalie, so that’s why he overpaid for his guy.

Losing Hallander seems like a bummer. Do the Penguins have like any prospects left?

I love Kap, but he's barely a top 6 forward, no where near a first line player

Legare and Poulin are their top 2 by far. Behind them its a very shallow prospect pool

They are still several years out from being a lottery team. Pens will be contending for the remainder of Crosby’s career

He has speed and some grit. He should get 50 points on pit. I originally suggested Murray for Kapanen. If GMJR can turn murray into a first, this trade will be somewhat salvageable

Kap is a nice addition if it’s not enough to make this team a true contender and giving up the first and our only prospect C is just too much. I know JR isn’t going anywhere but this must be the last year for him and probably Sully too

I guess the thinking is they'll have enough time before those guys become non-factors to find centers and develop them. Provided they re-sign with PIT they both probably have more than 3 years left still being great players. IDK though its hard to rationalize this move

That is the only possible reason i could see Rutherford trading all this for Kapanen. I think he has something else lined up. We will see

Since he played on the 3rd line above Nylander and mariner hes not on the top line with Crosby?

          Looking Big Picture.

Pitts has 2 more good years to make a run for the cup!

Hallander and the 2020 1st won't be a factor for another 2+ years easily. Also, you need to consider that the cap won't go up for the next 2 years.

Kapanen has a role, elite speed and a nice contract.

Pitts win now. Tml wins long term (if hallander or the 1st pan out).

Domi vs 15th + Poulin isn’t that bad finally ( Kapanen shoot right so suit better ) but Domi as good value for sure

No, it’s still a bad trade. Just because pens overpaid for kapanen doesn’t mean poulin + 15OA for Domi is a fair trade
