2020-21 Trees one huge trade a year

Created by: SmallTownHero14

Description
Possible scenario in the event the core is switched up. Has to be Gaudreau if a change is made. Monahan has warts but even if he's in the 30-35 best C in the league range those are too hard to replace. Lindholm playing C for a period this year killed his offense and putting him there with no alternative next year would be a huge risk if Calgary wants to win now.

I think the value is fairly even in the trade. Buffalo will definitely be changing some things up this offseason. Condition on 2022 pick would be Johnny resigning. If he left Buffalo the pick could upgrade to a 2nd.

Lehner gets his desired term for slightly reduced AAV.

Forbort was very useful in Flames short room. Could be back on short term to provide defensive mind to the young d core. Is $2,000,000 enough to keep it at 1 year?

Calgary would use 8th Ov to select Alexander Holtz if other top offensive guys are picked by then (Rossi, Perfetti, Raymond). 19th Ov could be traded down in order to regain the 2nd rounder or multiple lower round picks to maximize value.

Yeah this is crazy bad for Buf, especially when JG walks in two years.

Sabres need Monahan, not Johnny Hockey. And no switching JH with Monahan does not get the deal done.

I have a really hard time believing the majority of us are that panicked about him at this point in time. A small majority has never forgiven him for saying, on a Philly radio show: "'Everyone wants to play for their hometown team eventually,' Gaudreau said."

Recently he's gone on record saying he could see himself playing the rest of his career for Calgary.

So this idea that he totally hates it in Calgary isn't substantiated. We do have a tendency to default to "blow it up" mode very quickly. We made it into the playoffs this year basically on a technicality, so it wasn't a surprise we floundered against Dallas.

Yes the Flames would have to change the way they play trading Gaudreau. Would Tkachuk working the boards provide as many opportunities for Monahan? Can they carry they puck in the zone enough when Johnny has done it for them the last 6 years? No sure answer on either but could be food for thought as the current set up hasn't resulted in playoff success.

Haha great response. The idea would be predicated on Johnny resigning in Buffalo and finding great success with Eichel. Don't know if either is that unrealistic. If he and Eichel have success and Buffalo can pay him I don't think he'd leave. Just thoughts for a shake up to get Buffalo over that hump. 2nd line C would be resolved by UFA and Cozens/Mittelstadt long term.

Issue is we can’t afford JGs raise. Your talking 25M in just LWs if that’s the case. It’s just not doable imo.

Ya it would a left shot heavy lineup, that is a valid issue. Fair opinion, I would consider it to get some regular season improvement but that's just my view.

If one of VO, JG, or Skinner can effectively play the right side sure. None have shown they can. Tough pill to swallow moving on from VO for JG (and the assets needed to acquire). Don't think it's worth it

Absolutely, he has issues with coverage in his end but his offense easily gets him in there. You would think he is lower?

I did, but after reviewing it I believe that’s the correct evaluation
