Overpaying

Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 25, 2020
Published: Aug. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
just because Rutherford overpaid for Kapanen. that doesn’t mean overpaying trades are gonna be a regular thing. Rutherford knows he overpaid for Kapanen. the winning window is closing in Pittsburgh so Rutherford went out and got a player he believes can help them win now.
15th overall will not be traded unless it is for a legit top 4 d man. Dubas isn’t that dumb.

I don't see how people feel this is a huge over pay. It's not like a prospect like Hallander is irreplaceable. It's Kap for a bunch of lottery tickets.

I think its because Hallander is labeled as one of the pens best prospects, which sounds great until you realize the pens prospect pool isn't good to begin with.

Hallander is a good prospect, that’s about it. but kapanen isn’t worth 15th overall. i’m just annoyed of the trades on here massively overpaying just because kapanen got 15th overall.

They did well, but I think its because of the 1st rounder.

Ive seen a lot of people say this drafts pretty deep where you can get solid talents at 10 or even at 15. hallander is a legit prospect as well. Dubas asked for a 1st and prospect and got that with little negotiation which id say is an overpay considering a lot of teams land somewhere in the middle between what they want vs. what the other team gives up. Kapanen struggled in our top 6 but i think hell do better with Sid or geno.

It’s basically what the Pens gave up for Zucker, and unless they see something Toronto didn’t Kap isn’t Zucker.

I have a feeling Rutherford had some competition on Kapenen, spent the first so he can now move on

Ya who knows. If so, Rutherford was going to outbid every team. If he wants a player, he gets him no matter what

PIT got a good player with a high upside. He didn't fit with the Leafs as our RW is top-heavy and he's making too much for a 3L winger on our team.

The draft is really deep, making the 1st probably a tad high value for Kapanen. Hallander is good for the Leafs as he's not a small forward (needs to bulk a bit) who can play more of a two-way game cheaper down the line for the Leafs.
Turning him into a 3LW in a year or 2 replaces Kapanen's role while adding a 1st.

Rodrigues could also resign as depth (under QO).

I'm sure Calgary was interested as well.

This is one of those trades where 5 years down the road Kap is a perennial 30 goal scorer and everything TO got was flops and 3.2 million in cap space

Ya we just have to see. People are overreacting so much without knowing how Hallander will do in the nhl and if the 15th overall will even be something in the nhl

Is Hallander even interested in playing in the NHL>? Could that have been a selling point for JR deciding to move him.

Aberg, if he stays in the NHL, could be a 10-15 goal scorer, he has as much of a chance to be the same player as Hallander becomes, only 6 years more experienced.

Rodrigues should not be resigned @ 2 million. Unless he agrees to a paycut, he is a cash dump.
