Like yeah its definitely an overpay but if he works in our system I don't see why he couldn't get 60 points in a full season playing in the top 6. Plus he's fast as hell. kills penalties, is physical, pisses off the other team, he's funny, and he only costs $3.2 million

Because they could have traded that package for a more proven player or to unload cap

its what the pens gave up for Kap they hate not the trade itself. was same sentiment in the Hall for larsson deal.

giving up the 15th overall pick in an absolutely unreal draft year for a “funny” guy is a problem

Because JR keeps doubling down even when the team clearly isn't a cup contender right now, and no, Kapanen doesn't turn a team who lost in 4 to MTL of all teams into a cup contender. It's a nice add but JR is really setting up the Pens to be crippled badly once Malkin and Crosby are no longer stars and could be tough to get out of.

Alright well they're probably gonna get a pick in the 20-60 range for Murray and it is a deep draft

Kapanen is worth a 1st on average but not a top 25 pick in this draft. It was a severe overpay from Rutherford

As long as we have Crosby and Malkin healthy we can win the cup. Tampa got swept by Columbus last year and they didn't blow the team up and throw in the towel. I don't care if we're the worst team ever in two years I want us to go all in for Sid and Geno

I think the only reason he was willing to trade the 1st is because he thinks we'll get a good pick for Murray this year

it’s a great goalie free agent pool this year. would teams really want to give up a late first-high second instead of just paying a goalie in free agency...just saying.

Maybe, there are a lot of really good goalies on the open market and it highly depends on Murray's asking price

no team should be giving up a 1st for Murray

I mean me personally I wouldn't but NHL GMs do tend to overvalue goalies. I'd hope that Rutherford has a deal lined up for Murray or Jarry

15th pick not a great one since draft is weak after top-10. It'll be fine - this is small-ball stuff.

I guarantee someone will. Or they'll package him with Johnson to get a 2nd which I think is more likely

IKR! Like the best we could get is Seth Jarvis whose at least a year out. I'd rather have Kapanen now

If you look at this draft, and the quality available at 15, I don't think it's likely that Kapanen is the better player even two years from now.

Plus Kapanen has never consistently shown to be more than a 3rd liner, and I'm not convinced that changes playing with Crosby. He never looked good playing with Matthews or Tavares.

If you think the pens are going to be anything other than crippled when Crosby and Malkin are done you need to go back in time and watch the 2003-2004 season. Have you ever heard of Rico Fata? Former no. 6 overall pick. He was the pens 1st line center that season.

As a fan of both teams all i can say is this

Pittsburgh gets a hard working top 6 who is basically gonna be a younger sheary on the RW of Crosby, a good 4th liner in Aberg who can win shootouts for them, and a marlies guy
Toronto gets a good prospect, a depth guy who is not getting an offer and is gone, a marlies guy, and a top 15 1st which they can trade for a top 4 RHD or draft Braden Schneider.

Yes pittsburgh overpaid but Kapenan with Crosby could achieve 20 goals and 30 assists next season.

Dude I don't care about two years from now. Also I thought he played really well with Matthews when Nylander held out

Its a joke...I don't have an 11-year old.

Jarvis is small. He is good, but like lilliputian tiny.

There are a lot of names being thrown around this year as mid-first rounders, who would be 2nd rounders last year. Good year to sell 1st rounders.
