CAROLINA HURRICANES FANS- What do you think

Created by: WhereArtTLuongo
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 25, 2020
Published: Aug. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With Jake Virtanen working his way out of the team and with the Canucks need of acquiring a big defensively strong D man who can operate the right side, how about this deal?

To Carolina

- Jake Virtanen

To Vancouver

- Hadyn Fleury

Both were picked consecutively in the 2014 NHL entry draft and both are starting to take steps. Fleury played on the top 4 for the first time this season for a while and Virtanen improved his points total. The Hurricanes need another middle 6 winger which Virtanen adds to the table while the Canucks need a strong defensive and physical D man who can play the right side and chip on offensively and they get that from Fleury who was on pace for 7 goals and 18 assists for 25 points this season and he also had a corsi of over 54%. Plus Virtanen was on pace for 21 goals and 43 points this season and he also brings size to the table which Carolina would really like as an added power offensive element in their middle 6 and top 9.

They accept. trading Fleury means they can probably protect Bean in expansion

My bringing up all those left dmen you just proved why the Canucks shouldn't make this trade. Benn and fantenberg are doing well in the playoffs defensively, Hughes is Hughes and Edler is a solid d-man, I don't want to give away an almost top six player for that

I think the idea behind the trade is about right. The concern from the canes end is the character concerns that have been reported with Jake. That kind of stuff 100% wont fly with RBA. I am at least really high on fleury, he was probably the hurricanes 2nd best dman in the playoffs. Personally id decline but i could see it happen. If it did happen the hurricanes would then need to go find a rd since fleury has been really good on his off side

Would you be interested in a Virtanen for Carlsson trade. Carlsson is younger and is NHL ready, he’s just stuck at the 5th LHD in Columbus. Columbus could use Virtanen as a shooter in the top 6.

True! Just like Fluery, Virtanen has also been doing good in the playoffs for Van, finally hit the score sheet recently but is doing all the little things quite well. I think Carolina would really like him with Svechnikov and that can serve as a catalyst for them agreeing to this deal while Vancouver would probably like Fluery with Hughes

I mean i certainly think its possible. I would just be pretty disappointed to see Fleury go, the guy has worked his ass off to force his way into the lineup. The guy spent so much time bouncing around between the NHL, press box, and the AHL early in his career

Part of the character concerns come from being a hometown kid. Living the dream and never fully 'growing up'. That, coupled with arriving in the NHL way before he was mature enough for it kind of led him down a slippery slope. Tough love from Green, including some healthy scratch time in the qualifying round, has been a bit of a wake-up for Virtanen.

From Canucks perspective I like this trade, but I think if trading Jake is an option, he needs to be sent out with a bad contract attached to him.

Edler is old though and Benn sucks, Fleury would be a good return for Virtanen.

Clearly you don't watch the games if you did you'd know Benn has been pretty good for us yeah Edler is old which is why we have Rathbone and Teves

He isn't sucking to the point where we need to trade a Virtanen so he's fine lol you ain't even a Canucks fan he's been a good player in place of Myers cuz he is injured and Fleury is probably as good as benn defensively, he's a strong veteran guy and I have nothing bad to say about him. Plus even without him we have a lot of LDs don't need him Sheesh man

The point of bringing in Fleury though is that he plays on the right side and that's something the Canucks can use, especially as a cheap option with Hughes or Edler if Tanev leaves

In the beginning you put Fleury on the left side that's why my case with benn and fantenberg started but i think this trade ONLY is considered is tanev walks which is unlikely because Stecher is from here he's gonna take a team friendly contract and tanev wants to stay as well so for us I say no thanks we could probably get someone in free agency like a top 6 guy is tanev walks but I guess its an idea
