Description
I put a little description in the CBJ side of this trade titled “Toronto” to see what they’d look like after this trade.

Let’s get to it.

I think everyone was shocked this morning when the Kapanen trade came through. I wanted to see what a Nylander deal could look like. Let me know if I’m way off, or if either side would have to add.

I always see Kerfoot being moved out for cap space and because he’s not what TOR thought he’d be. I don’t watch much TOR hockey so I can’t comment on his ability. I’ve kept him on LW because I’ve put Texier on C, but they can flip flop, or Kerfoot could be moved out.

I feel like this trade helps both teams out. Toronto gets a helluva G prospect, who could tandem with Campbell once Andersen is gone. Can’t see them spending the $$ it would cost to keep him but I could be wrong. Not sure CBJ would be willing to move one of the top G prospects though.

Columbus gets a very good winger locked up for term, but also at a somewhat hefty price, as well as a wild card in the draft with the 1st round pick.

Toronto gets a great C/LW player in Texier. I think he’s more suited in the top 6 so maybe you slide Robertson to 3LW and Kerfoot to 3C and put Tex on the left side with one of the top 2 lines.

Like I said in the CBJ side of this, I doubt CBJ moves Texier as he, PLD, and Foudy seem to be their C of the future, but maybe they take a young scoring winger. Who knows.

I added Nutivara because I’m not sure of the values, and he helps the RD depth, and gives a guy like Liljegren another year with the Marlies to fine tune his game.

This trade gives TO some cap space to play with in the next year or two and keeps them young. Not that Nylander is old lol.

So yeah, is this something that *could* happen? Is the value close? Way off?

Let me know!
Thanks!

If leafs trade the 15oa pick Dubas said it would be for a Muzzin like defenseman who will make an immediate impact

That means a guy like Ellis, Pulock, and Parayko.

while I love Texier i just cant see this.

This feels like robbery by CBJ, no improvement in TO after moving Nylander and 15 OA ? Quite pointless

I think (think, not completely sure) I like this. We have the organizational depth, even beyond the NHL to move VV without it being a major blow. I'm not quite as high on Tex as most fans (though I still love him) so Nylander and adding another 1st in this deal makes sense to me. I think I'm leaning more on the yes side, but I'm not completely sure. The 1 issue I see is adding 4 mil in cap through this which means that even with a Wennberg buyout, it's unlikely we could resign Anderson which would be brutal.

All that being said, I think the actual chance of this would be 0 because Jarmo absolutely LOVES Texier.
Very, very interesting idea though and I think value and need wise, this is very close and makes a ton of sense for both sides minus the Anderson cap issue.

oh it would 100% be more than that but i could see a deal involving the pick in a package for him.

Like Liligren + 15th oa pick + other picks or prospects.

But realistically signing a ufa like Demelo than drafting BRADEN SCHNEIDER!!!! is my ideal situation. or we trade liligren and a 3rd for Cernak

honestly i think the blue jackets are fine. Offense will come and if they have to make small trades for more offensive players

Yeah, it almost feels like a lateral move (spread over 2-3 years. I'd be iffy on it. Really interesting to me though.

As high as I am on Texier, if this was the offer I would accept it. 15th overall is high enough that there are still some possible impact forwards in that range and we would have Nylander under contract for 4 years, which means its not a short term fix.
