What would it take to get Johnny Hockey

Created by: kdp23
Team: 2020-21 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 25, 2020
Published: Aug. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
No idea if this would work but honestly just wondering what it would take. NJ is already small so I don’t know if he’d be a target but wondering for fun.

I figure a first rounder is a no doubter. Added the middle of the road one between the three the devils have this year
I don’t think devils would give up two firstS so added next years islanders second
If McLeod doesn’t work I figure you can add Boqvist, Kuokkanen, or Merkley instead
Added wood for a third line left wing with size and speed.

Take what you got for Hall, add a 1st and a good prospect to it because he’s signed for 2 years at an affordable price and is better besides

Question is why do the Devils want to give up futures for 2 years of Gaudreau? It's not like he is going to lead them to the playoffs in the next two years (unlikely). Keep the picks and spend the cap wisely on other players.

The cost wouldn’t really make sense for NJ

I don’t disagree at all was just wondering.

They were apparently in the mix for kapanen which makes more sense because he has a couple more years plus Rfa at the end of his deal but glad we did give up a first and prospect for him.

I am of the thought that if they use assets for anyone it would be players of that nature but they’re more likely to just continue to add assets by weaponizing their cap space and continue to be in the lottery for the next couple of years at least unfortunately

I agree that the Devils should "weaponize" their cap space. There are teams who need to dump cap, Jersey could get some competent veterans "free" and hope their current ELCs and picks develop. The Metro division just seem too powerful in the next two years even with Gaudreau for the Jersey to make the playoffs.

Hughes or Hischier are the only things that interest Calgary but New Jersey wouldn’t give them up, so a trade won’t be able to happen

Hard pass if that's really his value.

Why wouldn't it be?

He produces more than Hall and is signed for two years rather than being a 1/4 season rental.

After seeing the Kap trade yesterday, my NHL economics are way off, so the value might be right. But it's too much for the Devils if he costs 18th and 20th OA, Bahl, Merkley, Schnarr, and a B-prospect as you suggest.

Yeah the guys had it right above that what it would take to get him would not be worth it for the Devils.

I think GMJR overpaid for his guy. He wanted him and pulled the trigger early. I would hope we would have hung up when they asked even for a first if Friedman’s report is true we talked to them.

Totally agree with you. It'll be interesting to see what Fitz does as his first move as GM. My gut is telling me he'll have a cautious offseason and draft approach.
