NY Islanders 20-21

Created by: ForsbergForVezina
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 23, 2020
Published: Aug. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Don't care, Leddy for a 2nd

Got Vatrano to fit

Lateral move, F for D. Take an extra year for less cap.

This trade has been approved by fans of both teams, but likely wouldn't be approved by Boychuk. Unlucky.

Barzal contract will be controversial among both optimistic Islanders fans and fear-mongering Habs/Rangers/Leafs/Flames/Wild fans, but I'd say it's about what he's worth. Evolving Hockey puts a six year deal for him at about $8.56 MM and this more than covers the Aho offer sheet. Ideally we get him for Point/Tkachuk/DeBrincat money + term, but we'll see.

Good bye Best Fourth Line In Hockey, you will be missed. Hopefully the new one will have a similar impact.

Islanders fans: What do we do with Aho?

I'd love that Barzal contract. Is Vatrano really a guy we trade a 1st for? Even with Hickey going the other way it seems high. I think there has gotta be a team out there who would take Leo @ 50% retained for like a 7th round pick. Sign Greene back $1/1 and you only have $2.5M tied up and keep that shorter year of flexibility.

Or the Red Wings could just sign a UFA D and keep our pick. It’s been explained many times over why trading high draft selections doesn’t make sense for our organization

I agree. Would definitely prefer moving Leo outright and bringing Greene back. If someone is interested, I’d do it.

As for Vatrano, I understand people’s concerns with what we’re giving up. Obviously the pick would have to be protected in some way (top-16 hopefully) and if it was Florida who was taking Komarov back, it might be easier to justify. I just think Vatrano could work well here. He’s a shooter, perhaps too much so and I think if that tendency is refined, it could be a real asset. I think he’ll improve outside of Florida, especially when playing with actual offensive contributors like Nelson and Beau. His most common linemates this year were Hoffman (you know how I feel about him), Dominic Toninato and Dennis Malgin. Get him back with some guys who can compliment his play style and I think you have a much more valuable player. If we could get him for less while still dumping Hickey, great, I’m just not sure how you do that

Perhaps. All depends on what you’re looking for.
