The irony of the Danault trade is you placed him on the 3rd line, which is exactly where he should be but he wants to stay on top line in MTL. I think he is also concerned about cashing in on his next contract and more points mean more bucks!

I like this team a lot. Two guys to watch are Debrincat and Nylander due to their lackluster playoffs

He'd play on the PP and PK in Chicago so he'll have plenty of opportunities to get points

A lot to give up for a rental 3C, but I like the other moves. I don't think CGY makes the Hanifin trade, even though the value is close.

Just why would the Habs do that? that offer for Danault is very very very underwhelming! Try Nylander + DeBrincat or Kubalik, Habs need goal scoring not CRAP players for one of the best 2 way centers in the NHL.

A recent first round D man, a mid round 2nd, a depth player aren't crap players. The habs wanted Beaudin when the hawks snatched him. Id consider adding another pick, but that would be about it.

It was more just to find another Dman that could help keith with TOI. Id consider adding more, but just something different than the strome for brodin trades

He's never had more than ~ 50 points — and that's when he's played with Habs top wingers during the past 2 seasons (Tatar & Gallagher). That's not enough production to warrant more than $5.5M per. Doesn't matter if he's a No. 1, 2 or 3 C.

I agree. His proper chair is 3rd line Centre. The player often does not see it and especially so close to his next contract. More points means more bucks, so it is normal he wants to remain on top line.

it's possible Danualt still plays with Tatar and Gally next season... (Tatar and Gally also UFAs afterward so ... we'll see who stays with Habs, but it seems unlikely Habs sign all key UFAs, ie. Petry)
Tatar/Danualt/Gally (for one more season)
Drouin/Susuki/Armia
Domi/KK/Lekhkonen (or a new winger acquisition in a potential trade for Domi, etc.)
Byron/Evans/Weal/Poehling make up the 4th line (barring any trades/UFA signings)

How many teams would sign Danualt as a UFA to be their NO. 1 C, ie. $7M per (none).
No. 2 C at $6M per, maybe a few teams would, but would they regret it after 1-2 seasons if he tops off at 40 points.

You can but certainly not much. It'll show he can be a good player offensively and defensively while getting more ice-time/winning face-offs which will help his value
