Yes. They lose their designated picks, meaning they need to give up things in order to participate higher in the draft.

The NHL seems to take cheating seriously, unlike MLB or the NFL

If the Astros were in the NHL, Bettman would've airstruck their arena.

Jeez, does this have bigger implications on arizona as an organization? I think this arizona thing is going to have bigger implications than them just losing draft picks. They have no picks until the 4th round in 2020 and 2021. It’s likely the try to sell a lot of the team. Wouldn’t be surprised if the owners pull out too. Might see them relocated.

Bettman wanted to airstrike the Coyotes arena. Trouble was he wasn't sure where it was, they have changed locations so many times.

Ottawa should be blowing up their phone to see what they can get. Seven 2nds over two years, and the 22nd overall to dangle.

The Old Cynic says, Hands up all those who think the NHL would have levied the same punishment against the Toronto Maple Leafs or New York Rangers.

I think they would have. Arguably there would be grounds for stricter sanctions to be levied against The Leafs in that case. The Leafs have significantly more power and influence in hockey than the Coyotes, and had they been caught using that influence to hold illegal training/workout sessions with draft prospects outside of the Combine, people would be rightly pissed. I think they got this one right.

You just want to have another team in Quebec.

I could not care less about the Nordiques coming back. QC isn't even top 3 cities I'd consider for a new team.

This is the right call. It's super harsh, but it's a pretty serious offense. Look at what happens in College sports when they tamper with recruiting and ****.

You wouldn't want another team in northeast Canada?

I definitely would, but in terms of options, there are better ones in Canada. The GTA is big enough to support a second NHL team in my eyes. Mississauga has nearly a million people, Hamilton has over half a million, and both show more economic growth than Quebec City. I'd go to Halifax before I'd go to Quebec even. Halifax is one of the fastest growing Urban centers in Canada, and I think they could absolutely support an NHL team.

I think Quebec should get another shot at some point, but I don't think they should be that high up the queue, and I don't think Bettman is going to let any team move while he's still breathing.

Thanks for the insight. Once we start talking geography, everything north and east of Las Vegas starts to get hazy for me. (Except NY, of course.)
