Realistic As Nuck V3

Team: 2020-21 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 31, 2020
Published: Aug. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So my ideal Offseason for this team meets this criteria:
1. Move Louie Eriksson.
2. Move Sven Baertschi
3. Sign our big 3 UFAs
4. Resign Virtanen, Motte and Gaudette
5. Leave room to fit performance bonuses to maximize the following off seasons cap space.

I think this team can afford to lose a few assets to keep the upward trend of this team.

Optional: Trade Stecher. I really like this kids game and him as a person, great hometown kid. But, I just dont see him as the guy we need in our bottom 4. I also think Rafferty is ready to fill his role at a lower rate. Brogan nearly Lead the AHL in points by Defensmen this year and showed the ability to transition the puck well. As for why Toronto, I think Troys game stylistically fits in the eastern confrence better than the west. And even more specifically, Troys game fits the Leafs to a T and also happens to be in a position of weakness for them. I can see this kid being a great fit on their blueline and maybe even run the 2nd PP. Their system matches up well with his transition game and ability to activate offensively.

The Detroit Trade: As a Wings Fan, id love to see them get Demko. Great young goalie prospect whos ready for the challenge of being a starter. The other pieces help this team as well. A 2nd round draft pick to further the rebuild and a servicable forward with a high cap hit but reasonable salary who can help the wings pk and bottom 6 defend better.

Canucks add Wild Card goalie prospect Calvin Pickard in return to be the 4th goalie in the Canucks system next year. Kid has bounced around a lot with each stops numbers getting worse. Hopefully some work woth Ian Clark would turn things around for him.

Sven to Devils. Jersey needs to change some things up front. Sven could be a offensive producer playing alongside his fellow countryman Nico Hischer. No risk high reward trade as they also get a draft pick as compensation.

The youth transition for this team is going to be interesting over the next 2 years to see how things play out. With Rafferty, Juolevi, Rathbone and Woo on the blue line. And forwards Hoglander, Podkolzin, Lind and Dipietro, another goalie prospect, all on their way to being NHLers there might be some guys who lose their Job soon!

I think its likely Ferland is done. If he isnt they will have to cut Leivo loose and run up against the Cap. Or demote Macewen and run one roster spot short, then split bonuses 50/50 over 2 years.

Van pays Eriksson's bonus for 20-21 and Detroit buys him out for 3.666667 total, gets a back up goalie and a 2nd rd pick. I think it's good for both teams.

Markstrom is a must re-sign. He's carried them through the tourney so far...

This isn't bad... but I don't think this is what happens. I am big on waiting a year extra on Loui.

Who do the Canucks not re-sign??? Keeping Eriksson means one of Toffoli or Tanev, I'm assuming they do everything they can to re-sign Markstrom, leave...

Thats why Id rather pay to move Louie now. Sure waiting a year would cost less to move him but you also then lose Toffoli or Tanev which costs you even more IMO.

A 2nd for Stetcher... an RFA? It'd be cheaper to offer sheet him

It would cost the exact same based off where his salary will be at.

Over $2,113,717 to $4,227,437. -  Second Round Pick

For one, Virtanen is highly unlikely to get that much. 2.5x2 seems more accurate now. Gaudette is high too.

Tanev is a guy that works great in our system. On any other team he isn't a high end defender. He might take a discount. (4.5x3 is my bet)

I think he's correct on moving stecher. He's had a nice playoffs. I used to be really low on him, but he's upped his value.

Leivo goes. He can make more somewhere else.

Move Benn. Markstrom might come down to 5.85.

Toffoli is the odd one out if it doesn't fit, but with ferland on LTIR, there's ways to squeeze this in. this is a strong team in the locker room and I see players wanting to stick around

I personally wouldn't give Stetcher 2+ mill so for me it wouldn't. 2 would be my max for a 3rd pair guy.

His previous deal was at 2.3M and hes earned a raise on that for sure. Hes got the potential to be a 2nd pairing Defenceman.
