Classic Rutherford Nostalgia

Created by: Chigurrhh
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 27, 2020
Published: Aug. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bonino is obviously better than Bjugstad but Nashville has a ton of centers and Bjugstad is ideally a RW. Penguins eat some cap space to give Nashville more flexibility. Both deals expire in one year.

Jim gets his nostalgia player, who was pretty good last year.

Burying Johnson and adding Bonino as a third line C instantly fixes the issues the team had with the third pairing and third line.

Next offseason would be the time to get rid of Hornqvist (Seattle) and Johnson through either a buyout or trade.

I usually hate the "lets get the boys back together" philosophy but if we're gonna bring anyone back it should be Bonino

Same. He was legitimately very good last year.

Lol. Murray for a late 2nd to a team without goaltending is pretty fair value.

Great we'll sign a free agent and keep our pick and you can keep that human rebound machine. Wings want no part of this, you can keep him

I think this is fair value for Murray but agree Detroit may not be the fit. They clearly don't need a goalie to improve their chances at winning, they have a ton of other problems to fix before goaltending.

I would point out that Murray is a younger guy who brings experience to a very young team. I think there's value there but I think Detroit can get that elsewhere.

Agreed, Murray needs to go to an Edmonton or Calgary type of team, not Detroit

Yea, and trading him to the West is always a plus.

Calgary seems like the best fit to me and they have the pieces to return based on the his value. I've seen a few posts returning Sam Bennet + a draft pick, a 2nd + a 2nd and a 2nd and a 3rd.

All of those seem appropriate given the situation, though others seem to think they're way off base.

Sounds good. Have fun trying to convince a solid goalie to sign with the worst team in the nhl lmao. Should be really easy

Yeah real easy. Until Washington calls. Hey Thomas Greiss, wanna stay in the nhl for a year and compete for a stanley cup? Oh you do? Really? Cool thanks for being apart of a cup run and helping out Ilya Samsonov. But yeah, im sure DET is going to be a hot spot for free agents

I don't know if you just pulled that out of the sky but that's actually a really good comparison.

I feel like this level of consideration in evaluating how player movement will unfold is frequently dismissed. I know everyone has their preferences but I have to feel like Buffalo and Detroit are low on players, "places I'd love to play" list.

Makes me feel like Murray's value is lower than I've been thinking, though Griess is older and doesn't have the playoff success.

Yeah but wings aren't contending now anyway, so greiss is perfect for their type of team, that's why Murray needs a playoff team like flames or oilers.
