Canes pass... not interested in bjugstad or simon. Have no interest in trading staal and unlikely to move fleury unless for a young forward

It's an interesting trade. Staal would waive his NMC for Pittsburgh, the issue is the return. Simon is a spare part, Murray isn't an upgrade on Reimer (say what you want Reimer was a f*cking wall this year) and Fleury is better than Bjugstad. If you added something like McCann or Rust, and a pick, Carolina likely considers it.

I think Jordan Staal is the answer for Pittsburgh. He's personally my favorite Penguin from the early cup years and slotting him back in at 3C would be unreal.

That return isn't enough to get it done. Poulin would most likely have to be in the deal. I like the return of Hayden Fleury, he seems like a solid top 6 option. He's a lefty though and Pitt has POJ coming up through their system. I wonder if Carolina would consider it with him instead of Poulin.

Staal, Reimer, Fleury for Murray, Bjugstad, Simon

Pittsburgh is getting the very short end of the stick here.

Pittsburgh is trying to get younger. 31 year old Staal, and 32 year old Reimer do not help with that at all.

Staal is a 3C. He is also $6M. That is horrible. Stall certainly has his positives, but that contract undercuts it all.
Reimer is not that good and is 32, so only going to go down hill.
Fleury is... Ruhwedel

Bjugstad's big thing is his injury status. If the back surgery worked, he is better on the ice than Staal. But, did it work?

With this group of players... retention is necessary on Staal.
Staal ($2M ret), Reimer, Fleury for Murray, Bjugstad, Simon

I will say this, nice to see a fresh idea for a DET Trade.

I don't think I would accept it though. 3yrs of Jack Johnson, and a 1yr stop gap goalie, and all DET gets in return is a 2nd and a 5th round draft pick player (don't know much about him honestly).

I think I'd pass.
