I think a reasonable model to look at for a Parayko deal is what Tampa gave for McDonaugh.

The second first should be conditional on him re-signing or something.

St Louis kinda screwed themselves by giving a ton of money to Justin Faulk. Now, they are going to have trouble re-signing Pietrangelo because of their cap situation. Something like this would be if they really want their captain back and somehow think Faulk is good.

Noooo, there's a BS fantasy going around because Toronto blog writers make up nonsense for a gullible fan base. This offer is execrable.

This ain't it. Blues is not rebuilding. Bunch of low firsts and random assets won't cut it.

Ask yourself what it would cost to acquire Rielly from TOR. And then make the offer for Parayko somewhat similar to that.

No, this actually doesnt help them at all sign Pietrangelo. This also makes them a bad team even if they loose him

Just make it Nylander for Parayko straight up and be done. Im a big Nylander fan but he's the only guy with value to trade now that the others are overpaid

Ya they are. Two years of Parayko is actually worth less than Nylander for 4 especially how they are lacking a #2C

Nylander's not a C. Also their centers are pretty much solved with ROR, Schenn and Thomas.

Furthermore they'd be absolutely f*cked with their defensemen, because instead of losing only Petro, they'd lose both Parayko and Petro. Nylander costs even more, making it even harder to re-sign Petro to the team.

Not sure if a rebuild is the greatest argument to convince Pietrangelo to stay: kind of saying, hey, we will be **** for the next 3-4 years, do you want to stay.

And the Parayko trade is more fiction than anything else.

If I were the Blues, I'd rather keep Parayko than Pietrangelo (age, cap)

I agree, unless they knew that AP was going to ask for a boat load and 8 years. He is 30 and on a 10 million dollar deal they would pay him until he is 38. That is risky move after seeing what Chicago is dealing with Seabrook. Not they are the same but all the years would handcuff them towards the end of the deal. Faulk will be 35 when his contract is up which is 3 years younger than what an AP deal would be over.

Pretty sure they can't make conditions on resigning anymore, part of the new CBA I think.

1- We are not lacking a 2C. What???
2- Nylander is not a proper C anyway.
3- Parayko is easily worth more than Nylander because he'd be much harder to replace.
4- Most important of all, this trade may as well say Parayko and waving goodbye to Petro (if not also another key player next offseason) for Willie because that's how it would shake out. Big fat unmovable no thanks.

Main issue is that Faulk kinda sucks though.

Nylander for Parayko doesn't make sense for either team. Leafs won't have cap space to re-sign him in 2 years and while the Blues could use Nylander, Parayko is cheaper and more impactful. Leafs should be looking at a vet like Savard or a young guy like Phillipe Myers imo
