Description
The surprise of the summer was Pittsburgh being eliminated by Montréal in the opening round. Only a few had this predicted. That lead to Pittsburgh sacrificing their 1st round (15th overall) for Kapanen a good top 9 player. That moves indicate me that Pittsburgh is going all-in once again to maybe one last time win the cup next season. However it's gonna be dificult. The core group is getting older. Crosby, Malkin and Letang are all in their mid 30's, so a decline might comes fast. Plus those guys all missed part of last season (aging certainly don't help).
First let's start with the obvious one of Jarry or Murray will be traded. For cap Reason I think it's gonna be Murray. Even though his play has decline and he battled injury he still won 2 Stanley Cups and is view has a starter. The fact that they started him over Jarry tells me he was still their man, but as I said for cap Reason they move him. Calgary could be targeting him. He would be their 1a goaltender with Rittich with the potential to secure the #1 spot if healthy and a return to form. Their s also the Max Domi trade rumors. Since the pens Don't have their #1 pick because the traded to Toronto the person that could be involved in a trade would be Poulin. As said Pittsburgh still Believe they could win so once again they sacrifice the future to win now. Domi will be their 3rd center, but since Crosby and Malkin are getting older plus with their injury history he could slot in the top 6 rapidly. If though his value as fallen I Believe he could still bring a mid 1st round pick (around 15-20), which is the spot where Pittsburgh drafted Poulin (21). So I think it's fair value.

Well stated.

Those trades seem realistic to me.

My concerns as always is the bottom pair. It needs to be addressed.

I could see this happening tbh. Watching people lose their minds again over the Montreal trade would be fun lol

I'm not trading Domi, a 50+ players with the habs, for a maybe prospect only...

Look at what Kapanen got - Domi is getting a bit more than that

I actually threw up a little after seeing that bottom pair. Trottman is not an NHL defenseman and JJ needs a very good NHL d-man to even be remotely acceptable as a 3rd pairing d

Poulin isn’t a maybe prospect, he’s essentially a lock to be at least a third line talent as soon as this year

You are going to need more for Domi, as stated earlier in the thread, its going to be a Kapanen return. Not an bad idea though, but this does not address the pens glaring hole on Defense, the offense will always be there with Malkin and Crosby, its the defense that is regressing at an insane rate. You should look for a D-man trade instead of maybe trading for Domi
