Leafs goaltending options

Created by: BeerLeagueTendy
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 28, 2020
Published: Aug. 28, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Whether its UFA, RFA or trades, these are the goalies I can see the Leafs looking at.

I don't love the idea of dealing Fred, but if the return includes a first rounder like I've seen reports of, it'll be hard to say no.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Hill, Adin [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Probably available as a cheap option. Stuck behind Raanta and Kuemper. .918 in 13 games this season. I see him as a low risk high reward candidate
ARI
2.
TOR
  1. Raanta, Antti
Additional Details:
Would be a good platoon option with Campbell. Injuries worry me
ARI
3.
TOR
  1. Merzlikins, Elvis
Additional Details:
Not sure what the cost would be. Korp is obviously their #1 guy. But i don't see them letting Elvis walk cheap
CBJ
4.
TOR
  1. Petersen, Cal
Additional Details:
Another one that won't be let go of without a high return. Could turn into a long term option though
LAK
5.
TOR
  1. Murray, Matt [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Don't like this idea. Cost is too high and Murray isn't the guy he was on those Cup runs.
PIT
6.
TOR
  1. Georgiev, Alexandar [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Could be a solid option if the Rangers were asking anything less than Jesus Christ himself as a return

I personally do not think Murray will be traded to a team in the East. On that assumption that would eliminate Leafs.

I think he is ticketed to go to either Calgary or Minny. Calgary has a hole there and has things we like. Minny has Guerin who loves Murray.

Peterson not a available. Raanta would be the one moved in Zona not Hill. There was a rumor floating around Korpisalo could be available. They consider him and Elvis pretty equal. Korp likely has a bit more trade value after the playoffs, and he has a bigger cap hit. It’s not much but they are tight and have PLD to sign. Every bit will help.

Peterson is the guy in L.A. right now. Doubt he'd be on the move unless there is a Quick resurgence.

I thought CBJ just signed Merzlinkins so it is doubtful they'd move him.

Murray is going to Minny or Calgary.

Gerogiev will cost picks and nothing else. At most, a 2nd + prospect or extra pick. It also all depends on if Lundqvist retires or not.

Low risk, high reward on Hill. I like it. Make sense. I think Raanta is too injury prone at this point so don't risk it.

What about Chris Dreidger in FLA? Solid recent AHL resume, good run last year with FLA, and a younger high potential Montembeault nipping at his heels.

His caphit is certainly appealing, it would be a pretty big gamble though obviously, but so would Hill/Petersen.

Personally I like the hill option. It wouldn’t be cheap and leafs would need to take some salary on. A package with draft picks and prospects for hill and hjalmarsson could work well for both sides. But I think @Gofnut999 is right. Hill and kuemper are the ones they would want to keep.
