Devils fan, here. I think this could happen solely because they're getting Bailey in it, who could be extremely effective on Hughes' wing. Leddy would be a decent bottom pairing LD, and Ladd stays on LTIR or gets bought out. They give up nothing for it. Could definitely work on both ends.

I would Leddy is better than a bottom pairing LD. He’s one of the best defenseman at leading the rush in the NHL

I think NJD ask for more to take on that much cap

I think if you switched Ladd to boychuk and add bellows, they would consider it.

Or bellows, bailey, and boychuk for a 7th.

I don't love it. I think we could get value back for both Leddy and Bailey. Ladd's contract is manageable for the time being and there are better ways to shed cap space for us

I haven't watched too much of the Isles but thought he had regressed quite a bit. A quick search shows that he is still pretty damn effective! So yeah I think they take two effective players and a cap dump for a 7th. Why not?

Will butcher is better than Leddy, he just needs more opportunity

I guess if this was the only opportunity to take away cap that's on the table I wouldn't be too mad. I would like to see some value back to the team though but if we don't give up any prospects or picks I can live with that

Only note to this trade in my mind is the stipulation that Ladd doesn't qualify for LTIR. If he does, then there's no sense in isles bothering to get him off the books. I would probably look to swap him with Boychuk in that case.
