Bring the 2nd up from 2022 to 2020 and the Leafs say yes. The Leafs need assets now.

Gaudreau is not a good match for Buffalo. We need a 2RW and a 2C. He plays LW. Olofsson and Skinner fill those roles.

there is nothing appealing in that package for gaudreau. if you’re not willing to give up great assets don’t expect a great player

Pretty much this. It makes no sense for a team not to match a 1 mil offer sheet. Its a low enough amount that you can bury the entire thing in the AHL and the cost of losing him on waivers is the same as letting you offer sheet him. Matching an offer sheet like this just gives the matching team more flexibility.

Jokiharju is the big asset in the deal. I dont think the year on the 2nd round pick is going to be a deal breaker. Beyond that though, I dont think its a trade Buffalo makes.

This is all awful for BUF. You're grabbing 2 LWs, the only position outiside of RD that we dont need. CAL doesnt want that trade anyway. And you're giving up way too much in the TOR deal for again a LW, which you could probbaly grab (easily) for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. And we dont need Anderson, i'd rather have Ullmark, half the price and a similar, if not better goalie. Didnt even mention the fact you through our best RD man in the trade which we will keep paired with Dahlin for MANY years. Joker does not move unless its for an elite Center or RW and it would have to be a deal BUF couldnt refuse.

You hope Skinner fills one of those roles. Sabres paid him way too much after a career year. And he followed it up with a horrible year.

For get Andersen. Actually forget the entire Toronto trade. Keep.Ullmark, Jokiharju and the 2nd. If you're set on trading for a goalie check into Fleury and Hague for Thompson and Hutton. Vegas signs Lehner and can buyout Hutton if money is tight. Sabres get a two year bridge goalie to pair with Ullmark until Luukkonen is ready and gets LHD depth...

Jokiharu is forsure a big asset, but the year on the 2nd rounder is huge. if its a 2020 pick that player could play in 2-3 years as a key piece. if its 2022 that player is 5 years away, and the leafs window may have closed (if Matthews leaves, Tavares is older, ect...)

I would value a 2020 3rd and even maybe a 4th higher than a 2022 2nd.

Just. Put Rodriguez in the Toronto trade. Leafs say yes.

This bad for buf. The CGY trade is too many pieces moving. You need to consolidate that and make it for 1-3 better pieces than all that mess.
And toronto trade is just down right horrendous. Losing Joki is not worth a slight upgrade in net. In all honesty Ullmark might be the better goalie this year

You can debate the Calgary trade for Buffalo but that Leafs deal is terrible for the Sabres.
