Ideally, we'd want a guy who's a 2C on a contending team, and Johnsson isn't that guy. He's not a big enough upgrade over Josh Anderson that we'd make a deal like this.

Don't see Jarmo moving Korpisalo for any deal that doesn't bring back SERIOUS talent. No need to move him for anything less than that.

Johnsson is more valuable than people seem to believe. He is better than Kapanen. and look what kappy got from a desperate gm. obviously that was an overpay. but Johnsson does have more value than people like to believe.

Teams can negotiate with players before the qualifying offer. If both parties come to agreement before that deadline, then they have a deal.

For example - if Leafs offered him 3 x $1M could be a win/win as Rodrigues likely won't command big $$ as a UFA and Leafs don't have to qualify him.

Also that kind of deal takes a bit of the sting out of not trying to get Leafs to qualify him.

So you have a minimum roster and maxed cap. What happens with a player is day to day? or gets hurt in warm up?

I would also say this roster is not as good as what we had this year.

People forget that Johnsson regularly played in the top 6 with Matthews/Nylander. The dude destroyed in the AHL, came into the NHL and got 20 goals, 43 points, and was on pace for 16 goals after being bumped down to the 3rd line because Hyman took over his spot. He's definitely a mystery and coming off knee surgery who knows, but the guy is definitely better than kapanen and can fit into the top 6.

Again, knee surgery seriously hurts his value, and the dude hasn't played since Christmas, but like - idk, I forsee him being a player we sell low on and he turns into a 30 goal guy lmao

The qualifying offer is only needed to maintain his rights. In a case where the player is not worth the QO you have 2 options. 1 you can come to an agreement with the player for any amount 2 do not QO the player and he becomes a UFA and you can try to sign him to whatever you want.

In this case if Rodrigues feels he can get more in the open market he can just wait until he becomes a UFA and see whats out there for him. The Leafs will not QO him at $2.2M

Columbus has no want or need to move Korpisalo.... he isn’t available..... we also have no use for a middle 6 wing or a LHD.... there is no trade between Toronto and Columbus that either team are willing to make at this time.
