The #15 overall pick was a tough pillow to swallow, but I guess could have been defended if they thought that Kapanen was a good fit to play with Crosby or Malkin.

The #15OA + Hallander is indefensible.

Even then I had Kapanen's value pinned for about pick #26 this draft. 15th OA was way too high for me and I think he's a very solid player. To get an idea, Connor Zary might not even be a top 20 pick and produced at almost the same rate as Dach last year. This year he had almost the same ppg as Cozens.

Truth is it's getting time for him to join Sully out the door.

He's the wrong guy to lead this team at the end of a window. He doesn't know when to get out of guys while they are high, and grab good pick ups while they are low.
You can trace this teams downfall to the signing of the Hornqvist contract. From then on, it's been a lot of bad moves. There have been some decent ones in there. But you can't keep being in the red.
He's single handedly accelerating this teams demise.
We'll be looking at this 2 years from now wondering if he closed the window too soon with bad decisions. Because I look the current team and I don't see cup.
Which is a shame because you'd like to see Malkin and Crosby get at least 1 more.
