I don't mind it but I don't think EDM needs to retain 1M on Pouliot's cap though. Straight swap makes more sense IMO.

Moving Savard is a bad idea for the Jackets as we don't have any decent RHDs ready to pick up the slack after him; RNH isn't enough of an upgrade to justify making that hole. And Pouliot-for-Hartnell is absolutely not going to happen.

pouliot For hartnell makes sences for me he has a nmc that cbj doesn't want going into expantion draft and u don't have to protect pouliot let him go to Vegas that's 5 mill extra to ur cap space

Actually, Johnson is adept at playing RD. That would not be a problem.

As for the trade, I like it. Benoit would maje a solid 3rd liner and gives RNH a chance to get first line minutes game in game out.

Hartnell's a consistently better player than Pouliot, and would probably be protected anyways. The NMC is really seriously overstated.

He hasn't been that adept at it when I've been watching him, but, meh. And RNH, when given first line minutes regularly with top quality wingers, produced at about or just barely above the same level as Dubinsky; he's not really that much of an upgrade.

I'm with Viqsi. The Edmonton trade is slanted heavily toward Edmonton. Columbus will wait until closer to trade deadline if needed to get a value pick for Hartnell. If not, he will waive his NMC for the expansion draft, as will several others. The player Oilers should unload is Yakupov. If they could keep center depth with RNH, McDavid and Draisatl, they would be set up the middle for years to come.

RNH in back to back seasons scored more than Dubinsky has ever scored in his career in a single season and Hartnell is 34 years old and not getting better. BTW RNH is only 23 years old which means he isn't even in his prime yet.

I have no horse in this race. I only comment to give perspective. CLB would be crazy not too take this deal. Savard is definitely good but I'd take RNH over him any day. Not too mention that Hartnell will not be getting top line minutes anymore anyways so might as well take the player that will be giving you top line minutes if he were on the team.

Anyways just as a side note, I think CLB should just stay put or at the very least get rid of some bloated salaries. They have a very decent prospect group as is and current roster depth out the wazoo. They have all the tools in their arsenal as is. They just need to be patient. IMO

There you go, problem solved but even then, with the abundance of forwards CLB would have now, they could trade for another RH dman if the wanted to fill the hole Savard would leave.

I don't dispute that he's scored more. Just not so much more that I think he's worth the hole at RHD.

And Hartnell hasn't been getting worse, either.

Um. Hartnell still can handle and still is getting top line minutes. And not wanting to move Savard is less a function of "this player is more valuable" and more "this player is harder to replace". We have two youngsters on the upswing who might be able to replicate a RNH role (Wennberg and Dubois); we have nobody like that for Savard.

I believe I mentioned earlier that I disagree with that assessment of JJ at RHD. And as for trading for a replacement - have you seen the prices for such guys of late? They're insane. We're vastly better off holding on to Savard and not getting involved in that mess.
