Huge Marner fan. Not a fan of trading him. But oh wow it is so much easier to make a balanced and complete team without his cap hit.

As a leafs fan, Florida isn't trading Ekblad. They need defense and trading away their number one makes no sense

In a Marner for Ekblad swap, I think the 1st goes the other direction. Ekblad plays the more desirable position and doesn't have an albatross contract.

He would be my number one target to pursue if I were Dubas. Exactly what the Leafs need. I assume Leafs would need to add in Sandin for Florida to consider. But I totally understand Florida not wanting to part from him.

Panthers looking to shed player payroll. Don’t think adding a contract like that helps the cause. Nothing to do with value just straight up money is a problem with this one.

If a 23 year old who is a 90+ point player has an albatross contract, what would you call Kopitar and Dought's contract? Hilarious that Marner has the worst contract in the league and yet is an all-star and hasn't even hit his prime. I suppose under paying guys like Marner during their prime years and then overpaying them in their twightlight like LA does is the way to go.

I know how it is. Trading him is the easy conclusion.

The hard part is to find a dance partner that would make a trade and has something to return.

We should also not forget, the Leafs structure their contracts very well.

Marner is only has 35.058 dollars left in terms of actual salary, which is 7 million on average per year

Most Leafs contracts are front loaded, because they have more money than most (all) teams.

Johnsson also makes like 2.5 million in actual salary the next 3 years

90 points and 70 of them are assists. And using logic that other another team signed a player to an expensive overvalued contract doesn't actually help your case. To put it in context, mcdavid is 1.6 million more and he has double the goal output. Any team would love to have a guy on their roster like Marner, at 11 mill a year is a different story

Whats wrong with Assists? Hes a play maker. Is he slightly over paid? yes but his contract is far from an albatross and there is 30 other teams that would take him at that cap hit if they could

Florida isn't going to trade Ekblad and a 1st for Kopitar or Doughty either. Their contracts are also very difficult, if not impossible to move.

I'm not saying that Marner didn't earn his contract, just that the high AAV and Marner's age at which it ends is going to make it next to impossible to move, especially with a flat cap.

If Marner wasn't on an albatross contract, Toronto fans wouldn't be considering trading him.

1st he is not being traded. 2nd Leafs fans add him to trades because of the VALUE he would bring in return. Funny concept you need to trade VALUE to get VALUE

Blues want scoring. I have a hard time buying on a player when most of his points are assists. How many of those are primary and he actually contributed to the goal? He's a great player, don't get me wrong, but there are only a few players in this league I'd want that are paid over 10 mill and even then what do you do the second they get hurt, feel they were slighted, or pull a Kovalchuk and run oversees .

Marner led the league in Primary assists in 2019 and was 2nd this year in P1A per game only to Mcdavid. he is also very solid in his own end and kills penalty's this Kid really is a great player.

With that said he is about $1M over paid. Not really all that bad and I would rather over pay a Superstar than 3rd/4th liner

That is entirely a load of crap. If he was available, there would be several teams interested. And the return would be big.

Ekblad is a great player sure but I am not sure he's as good as this site makes him out to be. There are many defenceman better than him

The same could be said for Marner. His point totals are inflated playing for a team like the Leafs that don't play any defense.

Under Keefe the leafs scored more than anyone else and they also were 17th defensively over his span. Babs was 29th defensively. They don't just play offence and even still there are very few 90 point players. Even less 23 year old ones.
