Description
The Blues have now lost Bouwmeester and Tarasenko, and Pietrangelo could be next. Two of your top three defensemen are gone off of a team that wins by defense. Add to that the best scorer on the team may not ever come back, and if he does, it's no sure thing he remains your "top scorer." Blues are in a precarious position right now. Many like to talk about a "Cup window," but the Blues missed the playoffs the year before we won and were also the worst team in hockey at one point the same year we won. A "Cup window" is pretense. Blues need to use the money they have gained from our major losses (and possible loss) and complement the veteran Cup winners with some youth and scoring prowess. Bouwmeester was a shut-down LHD, and his loss was magnified in the "Bubble." Blues shouldn't think they can completely shut down talented teams anymore, and Vancouver proved that.

Barbashev isn't a 3C and faulk would be our 4th best RD as of rn

Detroit declines. I’d love to bring in Allen for a 4th or at max a 3rd but Berggren is one of our best forward prospects and we shouldn’t move him for a goalie who likely will be gone by the time we’re good again

Barbashev is most definitely skilled enough to be a 3C, but the Blues have kept him on the fourth line due to the depth we have at center. Barbashev is very good and skilled.

The trade could be to another team, frankly. Walman is ready to play with no where to go. Your best prospect won't be ready for a minimum of another year. Chiarot is solid. The rest are simply JAGS. Walman may become a JAG too, but he's cheap and ready and no one will know until he plays. He just won't be able to play in St. Louis unfortunately.

Our best prospect ? Romanov is ready and Chiarot Kulak Mete are all NHLer, so definitely not MTL and he won’t cost a 3rd for a team to acquire him

Fair enough, but the Canucks skated circles around the Note. So did Colorado. Bouwmeester was so fast even backwards and so good with his stick that he negated the speed and allowed Parayko to tie up the middle of the ice with his length. We struggled against teams with speed in the bubble, and as we age, that will only get magnified.

Yes, I would argue Romanov is your best prospect. He's going to be a good one, but everything I've read about the young stud is that he is not physically ready for the NHL yet. Most 20 year-olds aren't, so that's no knock on him. I already stated Chiarot was solid. Yes, Kulak and Mete are currently NHL players, but compared to their peers, they are still JAGs. Comparing them to minor leaguers is not an apples-to-apples comparison, and I never implied Walman should be compared to those guys. I did, however, imply that he is a young, cheap, offensive LHD who is most definitely ready for the NHL. If Montreal (or any other team for that matter) would want to take a chance with him, he's ready. Disagreeing with me about what round pick he garners is fine, but there is no doubting he's be a quality pick up for cheap for some team needing an offensive LHD.

Wild need top 6 centers. We're set in the bottom 6, so we don't need Bozak.

It's funny you say that, because I actually considered trying to put a trade together to Minnesota with Schenn going rather than Bozak.

I'm extremely weary of his age/contract, but Brayden Schenn would be a solid target for us. The cap hit is fine for now, we'll just have to come to terms with it in 5 years when he'll still have 3 years left at 6.5.

@BeastModeUnknown @STLBlues17 @mokumboi and any other Note fan I can't think of...What are your thoughts on the following idea?

This is admittedly a radical proposal, but what if instead of using up around $9 million in cap space for Pietrangelo the Blues were to take $5 million of it and offer sheet Cernak in Tampa? The Note loses a stud who will be coming out of his prime and signs a stud who will be coming into his prime soon. The Blues save $4 million, which could be used on Dunn, and after Steen's, Bozak's, Allen's and perhaps Binnington's contracts are up, the Blues have enough to extend Parayko, who is arguably the key defender in our defense. What do you think?

As other Wings fans have stated not interested in Allen unless it’s a late pick and definitely not for Berggren. NYR already have Fox, Trouba, DeAngelo, and Lundqvist as good looking RHD so they definitely would make sense for Faulk.

Romanov not physically ready ? He is a Emelin 2.0 just way better overall. Romanov lays the body in the KHL, you might have misread because that's one of is force with being really good defensively. Norlinder have more the tools to be a top pairing dman, so he has more potential but Romanov is more a safe to be a top4.

First of all, I disagree sharply with so many of the remarks in your explanation. For example, the cup window is a real thing to be respected. Can't beliueve I'd need to say that to a Blues fan that waited all his life for the first one. Just to pick another one out, Vancouver proved nothing. They're a one-line team that was fortunate enough to catch us while a handful of key players were still trying to recover from COVID. I'd also add that NYR, DET and MTL definitely aren't doing those deals.

As for Petro comment, that's gonna be a no from me, dawg. Cernak is an entirely different kind of player, and I'm baffled at how people keep insisting that Petro is on the downward slope. He just had the best season of his career... right after leading the team to a Cup. He's more likely to age gracefully a la Lidstrom than he is to suddenly bottom out at 32. His game management with the puck is crucial to our ways and methods. Cernak does not have that arrow in his quiver.

I’d like to see it but I believe we don’t have our picks for compensation if I remember right, but Cernak would make the team younger.

I disagree that they are a 1 line team 2 line team with a tremendous defense. Horvat alone skated circles around the team.

I was referring to PP1. Their top two lines didn;t do much at all at evens, even with from Horvat's two doozies. And on one of those Schwartz was the guy caught flat-footed as the only man back. I think he was heading for a line change when it happened, so I can;t really blame him too much for being a pylon. I'm not going to lay it all on COVID (eg; our goalies definitely made bad errors at the wrong times), but there's no denying that the guys who got sick didn't look themselves. Had this series taken place before the pause, we'd have shredded them, as Vegas is doing now.
