No way you get Rodriguez for league minimum. @Jamiepo

Then don’t sign him. Let him go play for the Tallahassee Warthogs. If he signs 750k-1m he can fight to stay in the league.

That’s your choice.

Yup, this is why Pridham is already negotiating with his camp. He will not receive a QO.

Not saying it would be a bad thing. But it’s not happening. If it were going to happen, then the leafs would have held onto Kappy.
I am not sure that's 100%. I really think that 18 year old kid (Nick Robertson) showed in the playoffs that he could replace Kapanen. Toronto already has offensive players with speed in the top 6 and Kapanen would have been relegated to the 3rd line. Pittsburgh is getting older so they have a narrow window of contention left and needs speed in their top 6. So essentially deal away depth position and large cap hit. Trading 3rd line players after they were so decimated by the Blue Jackets’ third line is probably a way to address the problem two-fold.

With such a shortened off-season and the cap crunch affecting so many teams (not to mention multiple owners will self-cap because of lose of income), Dum(b)as(s) knew he had to make a trade in case he couldn't get anything close to realistic value on Marner or Nylander (saying Matthews is off-limit and Tavares is the hometown boy that signed as a UFA and owns a NMC and even then it's really Nylander out the door first). If he waits the value goes down as more of these playoff teams with cap crunches put players on the market. There really won't be that many buyers this offseason.

Also, in Dum(b)as(s) mind is probably the fact the trade opens up cap space for players on the free agent market to take one year below the market deals to go there.

Plus they have a top 15 pick to deal as part of a package with Nylander if they need to acquire a star defensive player with talent and have a team retain salary. Or just use the top 15 and get a solid defender with a good contract.
