Should Isles Do Anything More Than This

Created by: Buffsbrain
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 29, 2020
Published: Aug. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
To me this seems like the bare minimum for the isles this offseason. If Ladd goes to LTIR maybe some longer extensions. Should the isles add anything to this or try to keep it simple?

I liked my Vatrano for Hickey and the 1st idea but that's just me. If this is the team we go into next season with, I'll be happy.

I would say be prepared for an offersheet on Barzal or better yet, sign him before FA.

Barzals deal seems about right hopefully they get him for a little less on a bridge deal, but we'll have to wait and see. Pulocks deal is about right, I'd like to see him sign for 5 though. I think your over paying for Toews, he's good but I'd rate him about the same as Mayfield who's only get 1.45m. Toews is more talented offensively than Mayfield but still I think between 1.5 and 3 is fair for what he brings to the table.

I agree Boychuk should be a top priority to get rid of this off season, but I can't see many suitors interested. Not because he still can't play but because of his cap hit. Greene I think will want to sign for more than a million. I don't know that for sure but I can't see him signing for the bare minimum with any team. You're not saving much cap space by replacing Komorov with Woods might as well just keep Leo and
Leddy's worth more than a 6th rounder even with his salary.

Just my opinion. smile

Leddy gets the 6th because he is paired with Leo, without I think he gets a late 3rd early 4th. The reason I take woods is because I think that is one of the few ways we dump off Boychuk and him and Dal Colle swap in and out depending on the matchup. If they don't take back any cap they have to give up a first and I would rather keep a first seeing that over 95% of first rounders play in the NHL. Toews I could see getting 1M less but I don't think he drops too far below 3.5M per.

I have a feeling dubois receives an offer sheet from MTL first. If it's barzy then the isles match anything under that 4 firsts threshold and send Ladd away with a first and bellows to any team willing to pay 4M in cash for two years.

Fair enough reasons. Boychuks a tough one I mean he's still a capable defenseman it's his cap hit that kills most deals. Yeah I really don't want Lou dumping 1sts just to unload salaries either.

Also if isles need to match an offer sheet then it helps to save a first to dump off Ladd if he doesn't hit LTIR. Hopefully he does though and then the isles could either still bridge Barzy or send him that fat extension contract for 8 years

Why would you OS a team with oodles of money laying around?

I mean do you really think NJ is on boychuk list of 8 teams you can trade him to?

That's just from the MTL fans and beat writers not my own opinion. and its NJD not LA but either way I think he will waive it bc it's not a huge move and isles gave him a boatload of cash on that contract. He seems to be the type of guy when you give him 50M over 7 years he'll do you a favor and let you trade him 45min away

Lol, players do favours to ensure they don’t win a cup? No I don’t think so.

I wouldn’t plan on a player who negotiated an ntc to automatically waive it on fuzzy unicorn feelings. Not that he can’t be moved, just might take some maneuvering.

I know you got some feedback from a fan here but jersey won’t be taking his cap hit that cheap. In fact I think they would rather use their cap space on 1 year deals and pick up some draft picks.

That is why Barzal gets an OS. Lou will try to hard ball him. He also never takes care of things early. Look at the nylander situation he left.

I just think the situation is extremely different. Nylander isn't your franchise player, the league didn't have a flat cap, teams weren't in the same position. Just because he used to work there doesn't make it a great comparison. A comparison to early Jersey days is probably more fitting but still isn't that similar.

Did he sign Barzal last off season? How about this year in season? No? All I’m saying is that Barzal May get an OS. Not that Lou won’t match it. But it may throw a wrench into other plans.

I’m not a fan of Miles Wood. I’d rather j a pick back and in a separate trade go for Jarnkrok

I mean he signed like half of our forwards, mostly the top 6, last offseason then there was a pandemic. I don't see your point but yea obviously someone can OS barzy and then isles ship Boychuk or Ladd to one of their M-NTC teams with proper compensation.

In this I'm trying to save the isles from shipping a first round pick. Idk if you think isles could get a pick back and not ship out that first rounder

That’s fine, boychuk doesn’t have to waive his NTC. He can spend his time riding the buses in the AHL.

Why do you act as if you’re the one giving barzal the offersheet? You do know that Montreal is going to have an internal cap due to covid, right? Even if they do offersheet barzal, it’s most likely not gong to be for 10+ mill like all the fans on here hope for.

I was waiting for the bus rides to come up. I think that might be exactly the conversation lol.

Montreal an internal cap? No I don’t think so. I think they might go to the 10.5m for Barzal. Just not into the 4 1st territory.

That’s what lou lamoriello has done to ladd and they refuse to play him in the playoffs even though he deserves to play IMO.

Yes , I saw on twitter that the Canadiens “have publically alluded that they will have an internal cap”.

Just Boychuk, Wilde and a 3rd for like a 4th or sm. Wood isn’t that good, I’d rather j the extra draft capital

Who has signed their RFA's to contracts a year or two early? Ik Aho hit FA, did rantanen or connor? Idk if marner did, Larkin or Hertl. Draisaitl Kuznetsov or johansen? Those have been the major RFA's the past 3-4 season but I dont know if any of them were given their contract a year or two beforehand. No one has signed any contracts bigger than 3M per since the world ended, none being RFA to UFA contracts.
