No way Toronto takes a forward at the 15th Overall pick. Wed pick Scnider.

I would not. I actually like both those picks player wise, I think Gunler is a top 10 talent and by far the best player available there.

I would draft Schneider at the end of the 1st round or early second, because he lacks mobility, skill and skating to be anything more than bottom pair D.

Also, he is one of the oldest players in the draft (9 days younger than Robertson)

And I see so much luke Schenn in him. He is physically and mentally kind of a man in his game, who plays against kids. This does usually not translate well.

Ask Luke Schenn or Griffin Reinhardt. Exactly the same thing

Disagree with that.

We need a Right d so bad. We are basically looking for a version of Schneider that is 3-10 years older

I agree. I think you can somehow pick based on position, but you should not pick a player and expect him to make an impact the next 3 years.

No but it’s possible he would play in 3 years.

true, but who actually knows where the Leafs will struggle in 3 years? What if Sandin is the real deal, Liljegren getting solid and maybe a guy like Kokonen (who I think looks solid) play well by then

Still seems the safe thing to do (selecting Schneider).

3-10 years older is the key part of that. Leafs need an RD right now, drafting Schneider does not rectify that issue. He's probably one of the more NHL-ready prospects in this draft, but to expect him to make the type of impact the Leafs need right off the bat is unrealistic and, with that said, it does not make very much sense for the Leafs to draft him if there are other guys still available that the Leafs have ranked ahead of him.

I'd still pick him if it was up to me. He'd still be a good depth defenceman when we need it. When he's good, he can replace whoever he get this offseason.

because it is such a common thing that Ds who are supposed to be picked in the late first round immediatly make an impact in the NHL. It usually takes them year. Do you remember how ready Griffin Reinhard looked in the WHL. He is not even ready now.

Every defender that is drafted at this spot will help the team less than Martin Marincin does next season
