Cap problems amp Playoff solutions

Description
The right wing is a little weak, but the hope would be that Podkolzin comes in the following year, and is a difference maker. Granlund is a stop-gap reclamation project, and the Boeser-for-Dumba trade just feels right, all things considered.

Ottawa is not giving up 2 picks for a cap dump and a goalie we don’t need

Why sign Granlund when you could move Beagle and sign Toffoli instead. I also think moving Boeser for a defenseman 2 years away from free agency is a mistake

Toffoli is also signed in this scenario. Not sure Beagle is an easy off-load, with his bloated contract, age, and under-performance. But if a team wants to take him for leadership and the ring, awesome.

You don't think Demko is a good solution for your long-term goalie problem? A 2nd and one year of a mediocre contract seems like a decent gamble to take, particularly when considering how many picks the Sens have. But I recognize that there are also some options on the UFA market.

We don't need a goalie because we have solid prospects there. Hogberg showed promise last season and will start in the NHL. Daccord projects to be (hopefully) ready by mid-season but start by splitting starts with Gustavsson in the AHL (Gustavsson probably has the highest starter potential but Daccord and Hogberg both look like they could be decent NHL goalies if their development goes according to plan). Mandolese will likely start as the ECHL backup, he was just the QMJHL goalie of the year. And arguably our best goalie prospect is Sogaard, who still has another year of junior left before he turns pro. Since we're not going to be competitive next year (and probably not the year after either) it makes sense to just let those 5 guys develop and see what we have, there's some good potential there. We also have 9 picks in the first 3 rounds and 13 overall, so I'd be kinda surprised if we don't grab another goalie at some point (I'm hoping for Blomqvist personally but that's beside the point). So yeah Demko's good but we have good prospect depth in net so we might as well just wait and see at this point. We'll take Baertschi as a dump if you throw in a 3rd or a 4th tho lol
