Johnsson is a top 6 guy, can hit 20 goals, Khaira is a huge downgrade. There are a lot better options for similar price as Matt Benning, he's not what we need.

Why would we want Alex Chiasson?

As an outsider with no ax to grind, that Toronto trade looks like an overpayment by at least the Toronto second.

MTL Decline they dont need to be paying 4.1M to a guy who will be the 3rd pairing on the RD and take away a spot from fluery or juulsen.

You may not, but he's one of the best net-front PP guys in the league.

Johnsson has negative value IMO. I don't want that contract at all, but I could see a team that has cap space taking it for a 2nd.

idk, guy had 8 goals, 21 points playing with matthews for 31ish games, half of those games being when the leafs had anemic offense under Babcock, then suffered a bad knee injury. The year before that he was a 20 goal scorer, which he was on pace for this year (16ish).

The guy most definitely has value, and definitely much more value than Khaira/benning

He's not worth his salary. A disproportional amount of his scoring comes on the PP, and he wouldn't get PP time in Edmonton. He's just another Drake Cagguila with 3x the salary - not interested. And if you want to talk about the year before, Athanasiou scored 30 that year with terrible linemates and still doesn't have much value league-wide. Zack Kassian has had 15 each of the past 2 with minimal PP time. Both guys are paid less than Johnsson, but neither has much trade value.

Johnsson is a cap dump for me. Not interested in the least.

I agree with you that if the Oilers wanted a forward from Toronto, Kerfoot would be a much better choice, but Johnsson is probably worth more than Benning and Gauthier = Khaira and will probably be cheaper.
