What I am saying is that the you don't get the value difference for what you are paying a $3M-$4M goaltender and that of a $10M goalie. You are better to get a cheaper option in net and spend that cap on the rest of your team.

Carey Price is the best goalie in the world and can win you games on his own but at $10M he is not going to bring a cup to MTL

I agree, and as I said previously, you need to have the system in place to support a $3-4M goalie.

Toronto does not have that, hell, most teams don't have that... so they have to overpay to bring in goalies of a certain quality, and that overpayment comes in the range of the $5M plus goalies you see around the league.

Chicago was stacked, and they could afford to roll through Huet, Khabibulin, Niemi, Crawford, Darling and so on... but now they cannot, their system is barren, and will likely have to overpay to get a goalie to go there, because who will go to a team with no real future for less money? (just like Toronto, a goalie would have to knowingly go to a team relying on 20 year old defenseman with limited to no NHL experience.... I'd want to be payed more for that)

Some win a round and lose in the 2nd smile

Agreed but at some point you need to make the decision to start filling up the cupboards

In a perfect world, I agree with you.

But we all know that's not how an NHL franchise is run, Detroit shouldn't have pushed for the playoff streak to continue, they are in the pit of misery now because they wanted playoff revenue.

Toronto brought in Tavares because they wanted to make the playoffs more consistently, I still feel that was a terrible move, Matthews and Kadri were a perfect 1-2C setup.

that $11M would've been better off getting a defenseman who can play with Reilly, and some depth and a proper backup goalie (the Hutchinson experiment shows how bad Dubas is) and stocking the team with solid young talent.
