What would you do

Description
Here's about how I see the roster after we lock down all our RFAs. Assuming this is fairly accurate, what would you do from here?

Would you sign a few UFAs to pad the depth? Stand pat and keep the cap space? Trade a few expiring deals to acquire future assets? Take on some bad contracts in addition to future assets? Some combination of the above?

Just curious to see what the peanut gallery would do if were they in Stevie's shoes

Taking a bad contract on plus some assets could serve Detroit well. There's a ton of cap space available, and Larkin, Mantha, and Bertuzzi are locked up for a while with these contracts you've signed them to.

I don't really see any reason why they wouldn't try to lock them down long term. We have the cap space and unless they want to test free agency they would only get more expensive

I’d look on taking on cap to lower the cost of young roster players (eg Georgiev + Smith for a mid round pick). I’d also demand a high return for cap dumps and not just make trades to make trades. I’d inquire to about players on cap strapped teams that are still useful and short term deals (<2 years) as they can fill out the roster and be flipped for futures later. This rebuild is going to take time but that doesn’t mean you take on a 3 year cap dump for the price it took to offload Marleau. Lastly, I would look around the league to see which teams are going to have issues with the upcoming ED to possibly pry a nice piece from them.

Agree with BStinson -

take on 'bad contracts' to gain a player that is young and in a position of need (mainly goalie and center). If a young player isn't available, then the ask should be a 1st or high 2nd rounder.

Contract for assets I've been playing around with are:
Loui Eriksson or Sutter for Demko
Steen for 1st rounder
Boychuk for Bellows
Strome (CHI), but I think DET would have to send a piece CHI way. Possibly Svechnikov, I don't know.

I would stay away from anything long term on FA market, the 1-2yr FA deal seems to be Steve's deal.

Not sign Bowey, Erne, Perlini, Turgeon or Wood for starters. Pry a player away from Tampa due to their cap situation and like others one here have written take on a bad contract (2 years or less) to get assets.
