Why would he not be worth at least what I offered? Why would the Jets dump him like that without a decent return?

Don't know what you offered for him, but it will be fun to see what his value is once he finally gets traded that's for sure.

The return for Laine, Ehlers or Connor will be underwhelming which is why trading them isn't worth it.

Because Pesce's is probably the best Dman in the league at his dollar value. He is Carolina's best dman. I was listening to a podcast yesterday from Carolina and they think Pesce is their only untouchable Dman.
Target Hamilton or maybe Skjei

I agree 100%. They should hold onto all of them. If ownership wants the team to shed money, it should be the older guys (Wheeler and Perrault)

I don't think they care about shedding money, they're delusional in thinking they're still contenders when nothing could be further from the truth.

If they do trade any of the young wingers it's cause they think they can fill holes in the lineup and try to win a cup bit I don't think they (or most fans/local media) realize how big the holes they have are.

I'd love to see Wheeler shipped out but it isn't happening, the management loves him.

I don’t know. As a jets fan I know for a fact that he ain’t the best all around player. At the same time players like him don’t really hit the market often, which is why if he is actually available, I believe the jets could get a pretty solid return for him. I think that Maurice hasn’t used him properly in general and maybe under a good coach he can really show what he is about.

Literally here is what we were missing this season.

an extra top 6 player who isn’t a complete liability in his own end (I’m looking at Connor in particular),

2C!!!!!!!

3 bottom 6 players that actually played at an NHL level last year

A top pairing LD (Jmo had a pretty bad season l

The rest of the dcore besides DeMelo was meh at best pionk was also not bad

A true backup goalie

Personally, I love Laine. He actually is the goalscorer the Habs need right now. But he is the softest backchecker in the league. Ok, one of the softest. I don't see how any coach does a better job than Maurice in dealing with him. Claude Julien, for instance, would probably put him 4th line with Weise and Weal.....smh. I think Maurice is a great coach but maybe a little too easy on his young guys.

Tons of glaring holes this team isn’t in “win now” mode anytime soon

Well just by watching Laine this year, Laine definitely put in more effort into everything in the game. The problem is his fundamental defensive ability isn’t great. Although, the jets were straight up horrible this year honestly and got saved by an unbelievable performance by Hellebuyck. Paul Maurices systems are known to be pretty meh at best. I think if you put Laine with someone like Suzuki or Kk he would do great things.

I think if they move him it's a cap move.

I know no one wants to say that but it's a small market team.
Their is a lot of chatter about the penguins Kap trade also being about cap and financials.
Trying to decrease the actually money they spend.

This whole league has been run so bad. Their dependence on gate revenue is a joke. They should have told the TV networks to shut up and pay up.
If they don't do that next contract they are just dumb.
They will lose money next year, the writing is on the wall. So teams that aren't deep pockets are trying to move around that.
I think moving Laine is a part of that.

If Skjei is the big prize coming back in a Laine deal, Chevy would be fired on the spot.
