Gotta believe Hammer isn't waiving his NMC....especially for the Leafs. He's retired in Phoenix.

The Dermott and Erod contracts are awful thin. I don't think you get those guys for that little. Move some of Soup's money to Dermott.

I think he would. For a chance to get healthy. Hey even if he does plan on retiring early at least enjoy the therapy he could get from TML.

you can't just go and get their best defensive player, AND ask for salary retention and offer 2 garbage picks in 2 different years.

no salary retention, replace the 3rd with a D-prospect and maybe that makes sense.

That is dermott’s QO... well it is a bit above but I’m lazy. If he wants to sign for a touch more and lose out on a better contract next year when he has arb rights that is up to him. It would be foolish though.

If Rodrigues doesn’t like the contract he is free to go to UFA and risk not being signed.

Just think Hammer (and OEL) have taken the Shane Doan route. Doan had multiple opportunities to waive his NTC in his final contract season, to play on a contender, but he turned down the opportunity to play meaningful hockey in April. April 5th was long enough season for him. And somehow, he is so well respected as a "heart and soul" Coyote. Hammer has won his Cups, now it's his turn to be a heart and soul Coyote by not waiving his NMC.

You have a strange idea of the best defensive player. I'm not crapping on the guy but really?

Yeah I think a team is going to want Andersen. Someone's going to make him a deal for the resign before the trade and snatch him up.

Totally
And it's going to be an owner looking to save on some real money VS cap.

Coyotes have been losing money for how long?

I also think people are sleeping on the money in Johnsson and Kerfoot's contract. You get their cap hit but don't have to pay them that. They are a money saver since the Leafs have already paid some of the contract for you just like Andersen's.

Did you not read the trade description? The 3rd is for retention and the 2nd is for Hjalmarrson. They can move him through another team. I would not mind adding an rhd prospect to the deal.

He has missed 77 games in the last 3 seasons. Yotes recieve a 2nd in the upcoming draft (If the trade were done before the draft I would consider moving our 2020 2nd) and Yotes recieve 5m in cap space to sign rfa’s and fill out the roster.

I mean leafs could just as easily target lyubushkin with an offersheet that is front loaded.

I can’t argue that. For the purpose of this agm he wants to get healthy before he retires in the desert. Could even go back and sign another deal with the Yotes.

Exactly. Dermott's either signing his QO or a 2 year deal at ~900k. He doesn't have the case.

He may. It wasn’t part of this agm. Even if he is moved you still need to replace him.

I could see him getting 1-1.25m on a 2-3 year deal. But next season with arb rights he gets much more.

I think with the situation the coyotes are in and with Friedmans quotes there is something bigger coming into play

Rn from what he has heard Dubas is in talks for Kuemper + one of Hjalmarsson or Demers (either would come with retention). Going back is reportedly our 2020 1st + 2022 3rd and one or two prospects. This intrigues me as this solves 2 issues and works well for us. If Dubas can pull this off we can then move freddie to calgary or carolina for picks or depth players and build a more stable team.

He gets the most defensive zone starts of any player on his team and is the primary guy on the PK.
Why do you think that it is?

After playing around with Arizona's roster for a while, I've discovered it's really hard to ice 23 guys even if you create enough cap space (assuming Taylor Hall doesn't re-sign there). So I think that the return in any trade that the new Coyotes GM makes is going to include (1) at least one draft pick, and (2) at least one warm body. Just sayin'.

God I hope not. What problem is it solving? 1 Dman for one year, and a goalie for 2021???

Not exactly what I would call good asset management.

I would do Kuemper + one of Demers or Hjalmarsson (retention) for Leafs 2020 1st + 2022 3rd and 1 or 2 prospects. Coyotes get a top 15 pick, cap space, and can stabalize themselves slightly quicker

Leafs get a vezina caliber goalie + a good partner for rielly. Also can move freddie and bring in picks/prospects/ or depth players.

Have you tried moving raanta and bringing up hill? That move with this (assuming he is retained by let’s say LA...)
frees up 8m with replacements accounted for.

Leafs get a good goalie (which we already have) added cap hits (which means we lose more nhlers) and some old farts to play one season while Arizona gets Schneider and a bundle of goodies... nah... I’d pass.
