Dougie

Created by: SomeonesOffended
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 1, 2020
Published: Sep. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Saw Dougie on TSN trade bait list so here we are

Didn’t know if I should add AJ or some prospects instead of the 2022 1st but Carolina doesn’t seem to need much other than a goalie and they have interest in Freddy apparently, rock solid defence even with Dougie gone, strong up the middle and the wings are good too

That's a lot to trade for a guy in the backup spot

I would think you'd have to give up the 2020 instead of the 2022 pick, but otherwise that return seems reasonable, especially if Carolina feels like they can't get a deal done with him for some reason.

I'm sending you an invoice for the desk I just broke, slamming my head into it after you proposed yet another trade for Korpisalo that doesn't bring back top-6 forward talent (on a contender, don't @ me Leafs fans, Johnsson isn't that guy or he'd be that guy for you).

This Team's prospect pool would be hurting in about 3 years.

Not to mention there's no way Campbell is ready for that. He might have the talent, he probably does but he collapsed under the weight of that already once. Dubas would take his time with that if it ever happens.

Would Dougie play in a market like Toronto? After what he went through in Calgary?

The prospect pool isn't the issue. The Leafs are great at making trades for prospects teams give up on and turning them into something and pulling players from Europe. If they need to give up 2 firsts to get Reilly a proper partner they need to do it.

two firsts is a bit much. gives them no trade chips around the TDL. I would trade two firsts for a long-term rielly partner. Not 2 firsts for one year of dougie hamilton.

My only issue with it is Andersen and two firsts. Your basically giving them 3 firsts. So yeah looking at it that way I agree.

Carolina are not building for the future, they want to win now. The picks don't hold the value. Hamilton is likely only going to be traded in a package for someone like Matthews. There's no other reason to trade him. We have the cap space to extend him, he's absolutely brilliant, and he's beloved by everyone in Carolina. This is probably a slight underpay, could use someone like Lilly + Kerfoot or something to properly get the value there, but you're not going to see Hamilton traded for fair value when he means as much as he does to Carolina

What if he were to come with an extension of 6x2 years,

No goalie is going to get any team top 6 talent, cbj and nyr fans need to relax with the value of korpi and geo I just added two firsts with Freddy Anderson to get Dougie and it still might not be enough

As I've said ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh every time I've brought this up, Korpi is most likely to be dealt as part of a package that brings back top-6 talent. I'm not suggesting he brings that back all by his lonesome.

D. Hamilton to sign as an UFA with the Ducks....with Getzlaf/Backes/Gudderson off the books, if they want Dougie, they can outspend any team, as foolish as it might be, but the Ducks need a RHD and some star power and Hamilton would not have any fans or media to hate him (since this is the Mighty Ducks afterall).
