I’d rather use next years too but I’m tempted by this.

It's pretty much the kapanen deal. I guess with extension in place.

Don’t want petro he looked horrible this playoff. Let someone else get stuck with that contract. Rather pick up a big lefty if any. Ekholm has been my go to. I’m very interested in the giardi trade but don’t see him being moved

He would be good out there. He can skate with 97 & 29. Krejci much different pace. He would score 25-30 immediately

Do you remember what he did to the Bruins? Dude is a stud, and won't break down.

Rask has no value after what he did to boston this year.
If he couldn't even be counted on after years with the organization and knowing 34 & 35 year old starting centers busted their ass in closing out their window here in boston, why the hell would any other team want him.

Serious Question - Why? Assuming the lose to Dallas. Goal tending will be a question. Rask will likely win the Vezina. He is substantially better than Graubaer.

Carlo and Girard are different players, but I think they hold similar value. Carlo gives you more flexibility. With Makar's emergence Girard's offense is a bit redundant. Carlo could be a true shut down stud with some offensive upside.

Maybe make the pick from the Bruins a 2nd?

That is 100% false. He is a top 3-10 goalie in the league. You didn't hear anyone call him out.

I don't think it was a good look, but he still has value. He is still going to win the Vezina.

I agree he didn't help his value, I also think it depends on the reason. He could go to a non traditional market and be just fine. He couldn't go to Tor, NY, MTL or somewhere like that, but Colorado, he would make them better. instantly. McKinnon isn't going to care he flaked on the Bruins. It's not how it works.

Carolina could work.
LA (quick deal?)

Personally, I think the Bruins will ask him to waive, they will get a deal and he will retire because he probably doesn't want to move and they move back to Finland and he plays in the SEL or lives off the 50m+ he's made.

but the kapanen deal was a robbery for Dubas. That's the exception, not the rule

He also got a good prospect.

Debrusk is worth a 14th overall. Still young and under control, I get not wanting to do it, but chances are whoever you draft there takes 2-3 years to get to Debrusk's level.

A) Do you really want to kick that can further down the road?
B) Do you have faith GM can draft someone useful?
C) without looking do you have any clue who drafted 14th overall in 2019 and who was the pick?

1) No
2) I am the GM and probably not. We'll probably draft Cody Ceci 2.0
3) Wasn't it that goalie Spencer Knight? Debrusk>Knight.

Looking back at it, that trade does look very enticing

goaltending isnt an issue bc of ability its bc of a freak injury.

Its not that hard to see why Avs would want nothign to do with this deal...Girards offense is a bit redundant...if you think Girard is just some small offensive only Dman you have no clue who he is as a player, He is solid defensively and one of the best in the league transitional Dman. Girard has more versatility than Carlo.

plus when you consider Girard will be going into the 1 year of a 7 year deal next season at a steal of an aav and Carlo is already playing on 1 year of a bridge deal. Contract wise its Girard over Carlo every time

You didn't hear anyone call him out because the vets know better than to do that and they still run the room. But don't think for one second they weren't all pissed.
Chara probably his last year, cup hopes dashed on one dumb decision.

Don't think other teams don't notice this. No one knows how next season is going to play out yet. Does he sit again?
Why would any team take that risk. None would. It's not worth the effort.
He sold his team out. Other teams won' t give him the chance to do the same.
Every other player out there put them self at risk for the good of the league. Even Domi, who has health issues got off his ass and played.
He choose not to. Other people will notice.

IF the Avs lose it will be because of injury. Grubauer if you want to nitpick does need to stay healthy, but the days of 1 guy taking 60-65 starts is gone. Francouz who it looks like was playing hurt from the the go was solid and with the mass of goalies available they will look but Rask at $7M isn’t a substantial enough at his age and need for contract to be a guy they look to send assets for. Also he isn’t winning the Vezina Hellbuyck is.

Carlo vs Girard. Girard isn’t redundant to Makar the similarity is that they are good skating transition guys, but Girard gets the false knock he isn’t good defensively because of his size. On top of that he is signed to a team friendly deal for the next 7 years. It’s close imo but Girard generating offense (34pts this year) and his play and fit in COL transition game makes him more valuable to the Avs than what Carlo would as more of a defensive specialist.

Ultimately the Avs don’t make this deal because they don’t need to. They have cap flexibility to chase a goalie if they want in free agency not giving up any assets, and as for defense they have guys like Byram who is going to be a beast and Timmins who is like Carlo coming.

The Avs are in the very fortunate position that they can count on internal growth to get better, and have cap space to acquire something they want if they choose. They don’t have to chase trade packages that hamper them immediately cap wise.

I don't think that is all Girard is, I like him. Hence the attempt to acquire him and the comparison value wise to Carlo. I think very highly of Carlo. Yes, he is on a bridge deal, but he is not the type of defenseman to get paid. I don't see him making much more than Girard's deal. Probably less, if I am being honest, the term make it difficult to project.

Carlo is much more than a defensive specialist. He hasn't really put up numbers, but he can skate and move the puck. If given the freedom he could be a 7g 25a guy. It's also not his thing. Think good Seabrook. He is also still getting better.

This makes sense. My only argument is that the next two years are very important for Col. I know they are in good shape, but Landekskog and Makar are both going to get paid, but McKinnon is right behind them along with Kadri.

I guess my point is that it makes them better now. Rask is better than Anyone they currently have. If you want to sign Holtby to a 5y/6m deal by all means, go ahead. You could trade for Murray, so that may be an option, but the beauty of Rask is it's only 1 year. Crawford or Lehner are probably your next best options.

MacKinnons is the kicker. Plenty of space for Landeskog and Makar. Newhook is Kadri’s built in replacement. They also have Donskoi and Compher coming off the books the same time MacKinnon needs an extension. Byram should also need an extension but that is for another day.

The rest of the Avs fans have basically said it. Our problem is not in net at a starting position. We have goalies that are hurt and can't play not just don't want to participate. Our starter was good this year, our backup was even better for the most part. And yes GMs and players have taken notice of his choice (for what ever that reason may be). And of any position, you have to trust your GT is going to be there and he was not. Plus, Carlo is a younger EJ which is already Sammy's D partner. And, yes Sammy's O skills are like Makar's to a lesser degree, but the look is different. LD vs. RD. Its nice to have options.

I would have to think it would be, right? I guess he could be difficult and make his approved teams the Canadiens, Leafs, etc..., but I don't see that working out well. 15 teams is a decent amount and Rask has value. Even if they had to eat some of his salary, I feel like they could move him.

Col makes sense to me.

Hurricanes actually makes the most amount of sense, but that would likely give Rask a chance to beat the Bruins next year. Carolina is a good young team and Rask would make them better.

The Stars would be an option if they don't win the Cup. Bishop would have to come back, so I don't really want that.

Edmonton or Calgary also makes sense.
