Description
Morgan Rielly is my favourite Leaf, and on balance, probably my favourite person in the league. But changes need to be made, and if we're to get an Aussie on the Leafs, it's all worth it.
I added those picks because that's what all you professional trade creators do. Picks for seasoning.

Neither one of those trades are remotely enough. Can give chicken scraps and get two of the best RD in the league lol

Morgan Rielly is a killer D. Which begs the question, why are you trading Reilly.

It's not worth trading Reilly just so you can say you have an Aussie on your team.

Because we are a supportive lot, but really not great at hockey. Playing grocery stick is probably our ceiling.

Isn't it? It's essentially an offense/defense and left/right swap, contracts similar, value similar. Plus you're gaining almost 30 million bogans.

Agree with that regarding the Canes trade, but since when is Morgan Rielly "chicken scraps"? Give your head a shake

Once again meant more for the canes trade. The Reilly one is weird. Don’t know why either team does that tbh

Fair point. I understand why each team would do it - STL stacked at RD, full of defensive defensemen, Leafs stacked at LD, full of offensive defensemen aside from Muzzin. But I think Rielly is too important to this team in terms of leadership and on the ice (he played the whole season hurt, I think he looked great again in the playoffs for the most part despite playing with Cody f*cking Ceci), and Parayko is arguably too integral to the STL blue line as well.

The Aussie? He has a name. We don't need another Tavares/Barzal debacle.

Right the thing is you know how both play for their respective teams, we’ve seen far too much when players move that it’s just not the same....

I wouldn't even be interested in Rielly. Parayko has below average offense Elite defense. Rielly has Elite offense and abysmal defense. Defense wins championships. It was proven. I'm not even remotely interested in the Blues-Leafs deal. Not in the slightest bit.

I mean I think in Rielly's case he could translate well to most other teams. He plays with some pretty sh*tty partners in an arguably sh*ttier defensive system. I think if he went to any team that could offer him a better defensive partner and a good defensive structure that can allow him to rush the puck and not get screwed when he has to get back and Justin Holl is going 2km/h back the other way, I think he'd be as good or better. As for Parayko, he should translate well too, but I mean maybe St. Louis' strong defensive system helped him out a bit and the Leafs' not so defensive structure might do him a bit of harm. It shouldn't, Muzzin has looked great here, but you never know

fine, but abysmal is a stretch. I would call it average at worst. They are pretty even, it just depends if you want a defensive D or a more offensive D

Carolina is not going to trade Hamilton unless contract talks go badly. EVen if they do the Canes can get more elsewhere if thats the best Toronto can do

And overrated on offense by Leafs fans thanks to one clear outlier season.

Hmm. Despite Reilly getting worlds more PP time, Parayko scores just as many goals per game and isn't that far off on points per game.

Parayko 0.10 gpg, 0.41 ppg
Rielly 0.10 gpg, 0.51 ppg

And, at least by the analytics, Parayko is actually a slightly better puck mover and has a clear possession metrics advantage.

Rielly played the entire season hurt. If you compare it to his last healthy season (2018-19) he is much better than Parayko offensively

These are career numbers I posted. But yes, if you cherry picked out Rielly's clear, far and away outlier best season... but you can say that about most anyone. And again, "offense" isn't just points. It's also forward puck movement (Parayko slightly better) and possession play (Parayko with a considerable advantage). He definitely cannot match Parayko's shot. And if we must talk points, do factor in that Rielly gets about 6 times as much PP time as Parayko. Yeah... SIX times as much.

Long story short, the notion that Rielly is so much better offensively than Parayko is quite overplayed. He's not.
