These Deals Work

Created by: Eddy
Team: 2020-21 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 1, 2020
Published: Sep. 1, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These deals help both teams IMO. If the value is slightly off adjust picks or throw in a minor prospect/fringe player. JJ to Minny has already been discussed and they need to make a move for a goalie. Guerin likes JJ. Getting 6 `6 hometown Bjugstad for a center hungry team is a nice bonus. Anyone who says he is a cap dump who doesn`t have positive value is ridiculous. Moving Dubnyk is also a plus. Pitt can let him play out year (or flip?) and then have Desmith backup next year. Brodin is a good player but only has 1 yr remaining and is UFA.

Devils need D and scoring wingers. They have too many centers and prospects and need to start making moves for established NHLers. Zacha is a piece they can afford to move and they can replace their 3C with a veteran in free agency (ie. Soderberg, Haula, Eakin) or trade or move Hughes back to center and roll Hughes-Hischier-Zajac as top 3C. McCann in an elevated role with Hischier or Hughes could be a steal.

Pens get faster and younger (Kap, Zacha) while also bringing in some tough veterans (Buf, Maroon).

Team has depth and can let younger guys have big roles in Wilkes instead of sitting not playing in Pitt. It`s too bad Poulin couldn`t play in the AHL. I think he is too good to play in the Q but not quite ready to make enough of an impact in the NHL. It may work out if the CHL plays its season earlier than NHL that he can play CHL and then jump to NHL (or AHL - he`ll be 20 In Feb) midseason after CHL is done for the year.

No they don't. At best Dubynk = Johnson (which it doesn't b/c Dub has 1 more year on his deal when Johnson has 3). That means Murray+Bjugstad+5th does not equal Brodin+3rd.

As I explained. Guerin doesn`t see Johnson as a cap dump. He is a cheaper replacement for Brodin. The only way Murray Bjugstad and 5th doesn`t equal Brodin and a 3rd is if the Pens say no that`s not enough. This trade is acceptable for both teams and makes sense for both.

Murray has had 2 straight bleh seasons and was just benched in the playoffs. His value is veeeeeery low. Don't think MIN is going to trade one of the best shut down dmen in the league for a big question mark.

Rumors going around that it is exactly what is going to happen so...

Murray didn`t get benched in the playoffs they turned to Jarry for the last game to give a spark and it didn`t work. Murray played well in playoffs and played well going into the break. He had a rough start to the season (his dad died at start of year) and are you forgetting 2 Stanley cups? His trade value is the highest of all available goalies because 1) Age 2) RFA 3) Championship pedigree 4) Cap will be lower than UFA market goalies.

Murray has been an unfair target of "Pens" fans and little kids for a while and I think it got to him. He will be an elite goalie wherever he ends up. If Guerin is targeting Jarry instead then go ahead I`ll gladly keep Murray.

Yeah, no.

Break down how you value this trade. Cause I think if you do that you'll realize how terrible it is.

But, before we break it down, let's just look at the top 2 pieces of this trade from the Wild's perspective, Brodin & Murray:
The Wild don't need to make any goalie trades & if they're moving Brodin it's for a massive package or a 1C/potential 1C

Now the value:
Brodin >> Murray, it's a shutdown Dman vs a gamble at G who reportedly wants an outrageous contract

3rd > Bjugstad & 5th, a homecoming doesn't meaning squat if he doesn't have a clear spot. And that's no reason for the Wild to do the pens (a team they want to suck) a favour.

Dubnyk >> Johnson, not only is Dubnyk more valuable than Johnson, the Wild might actually have a spot for him. Yeah, they'll take the more useful player on the better contract every day of the week

Not sure where you get your rumors but Guerin watches and understands hockey, that Wild trade is total garbage.

Murray/Jarry to Minny has been a rumor for months. The original Zucker trade included JJ and Jarry. Guerin was with Pens before, likes JJ and Murray/Jarry. Guerin said they are not happy with goaltending and they want/need to upgrade this offseason.

Now to value:

Prime aged elite RFA 2-time Cup winning goalie >>>>>>>>> Top 4 Shutdown D on expiring contract
Johnson/Dubnyk is a wash. Johnson as 3rd pairing D is fine. Dubnyk sucked last year. You`re welcome for taking him without retained salary.
Bjugstad and a 5th for a 3rd? You do realize Barclay Goodrow got a 1st round pick right? Bjugstad is bigger, better and has more potential than him. His injury concerns are overblown. Guerin would also understand this from his time in Pitt.

I`m quite certain that this is very similar to what the trade will look like. And I do think that this is the team Murray/Jarry will go to based on rumors, GM-GM relationship and fit for all players involved. This is real life eh? Sorry this isn`t GM mode and trades are defined by little bars of made of value. Even though I think this trade would probably go through on there as well.

We`ll see. Give it a couple weeks.

To say it nicely Wild Pass:
Murray = 2nd. JJ = (-)2nd as a cap dump, so their value is a wash.
Bugjstad = Dubnyk both are rental cap dumps that are gambles.
So that leaves Brodin+3rd to get a 5th from PIT.

Are you telling me you are either Jim Rutherford or Bill Guerin because if you are I apologize and if you are Guerin don't do it.
