MASSIVE W!!

We used what we got from Kovalchuk to get Allen. Pretty much getting Allen for free. Thank you again St.Louis

Gives the Blues breathing room. Gives the Habs another backup goaltender.

Good trade.

Great deal for both teams. Blues get cap space to re-sign Pietrangelo and the habs get a solid backup for cheap.

They got a 3rd round pick for a goalie that put up a .927 this year. Montreal gave up the pick they got for signing Kovalchuk and trading him a month later. It's a clear W for MTL

St.Louis got rid of their better goalie and still doesn't have the cap to sign Pietrangelo, there isn't a good POV from the Blues

Good for both teams.

Allen/Price is tantalizing especially considering what price did with a little rest

Allen was very good last year but you gotta think that MTL could have gotten him for less, or even negative value due to cap circumstances.

If I were a Habs fan, I'd be worried about this. Tying up 15 mil in goaltenders is a poor use of cap (spare me the obvious jokes) and this means they won't be spending money on parts of the roster they need to improve to be a consistant playoff team.

Honestly I think this is a lose-lose trade. MTL paid too much for too little value (backups don't contribute much) and STL lost their better goalie.

Massive win for blues. Shedding cap space to resign Pietrangelo and also getting a 3rd in a deep draft.

Solid deal for MTL as their not really in cap trouble. Allen could be a solid “Halak/Khudobin” behind Price allowing him to stay fresh.

Montreal probably wins when you look at it 5 years down the road, but the Blues really needed that cap space to have a chance at resigning their captain. Win-win.

I believe they're not quite done yet with the moves.

At the very least they covered all the money necessary to re-sign Dunn.

If you look up his stats from last year, he was St.Louis best goaltender and only has 1 year left on his contract. Montreal still has 14 Million in cap space and only has to pay Domi. We still have space to make other improvements.

It would make more sense if this actually allowed to Blue to resign Pietrangelo, but they still only have about 6 Million in cap space and still have to resign Dunn.

I'm aware, I still think you could have gotten him for less, and this does remove your ability to improve the roster elsewhere to an extent. There are plenty of players other teams would have paid you to take that could contribute more than Allen could, and now you have 4 mil less to do so

Never, ever pay for goalies. There is literally no correlation between how much you pay for how much you get, and MTL are paying nearly 20% of the cap in goalies

There is no correlation, but there are stats to back up that Allen can actually play the position of goaltending, meaning that Price doesn't have to play 70+ games a year.

Yeah, and you're paying them 15 mil. Do you really not see the problem here? If you don't I never want to hear you **** about the Leafs contracts ever again.

It doesn't matter about how much we are paying them when we have tons of cap space to make other moves. This doesn't handicap us in the slightest. Leafs are a completely different story.
