Description

Okay, hear me out

Blues want to sign Pietrangelo and have already started clearing space (Jake Allen trade). They still need more space, can't trade Justin Faulk (NMC) and can't really afford/doesn't make sense to have 3 expensive RDs

Blues get 3 young cost-controlled players back.

It may seem like a low return, but remember 1) they need cap space; 2) they would otherwise let Pietrangelo go for free; 3) Parayko only has 2 years left which means he would need to be protected for expansion draft and then can go to UFA that next season

Open to other suggestions that are fair for Parayko (not Nylander cause we've already seen his value is low)

You might get his skate laces for that, how is his value low? because he would make the leafs better? STL doesnt listen if Nylander/Marner isnt involved

Your justification doesn't equate to thinking the Blues move him for cheap. Just because a team needs cap space, doesn't mean the players value drops much if any.

Additionally, without any retention, Johnsson is not worth more then a 3rd round pick if the Leafs are lucky and more likely a 4th.

You did just see us get a third round pick for our goalie right? Even though teams knew we were up against it and the goalie market is flooded with options?

We will get fair value for Parayko and that ain't it. Plus it doesn't alleviate any cap issues, really, as Johnsson+Dermott will only be about a million less (if we're lucky) than Parayko

change Brooks to TORs 1st and the conversation can at least start.. The main issue is that the only piece TOR people seem to want to move is Johnsson and the Blues really have no real need for a depth winger. Dermott and a 1st are nice pieces but Parayko at 5.5 mil for two more years is MUCH nicer.

Blues don't need cost controlled players they need Value. Good Value and you aren't giving it here. This is the reason why I said I am not interested in a deal with Toronto anymore because all Toronto wants to offer for Parayko is spare parts, and Blues don't want there great marquee players either because they are so expensive. We can trade Tyler Bozak and we would have enough for Pietrangelo, and maybe getting Steen out helps. Gunnarsson is already gone, so at this point Dunn is 2-3 million on a bridge. It's not that deep we don't need to use Parayko as a cap relief, same with dunn. Bozak and Steen are cap relief.

1st Johnsson and Liljegren and I think St Louis starts to listen. It even then what's the point when you factor in paying Pietrangelo 3-4 mil more than Parayko

As a Leafs fan, this isn’t anywhere close. Parayko would cost at least Nylander or a package that include’s the 15th OA pick.

blues probably buy out steen and it might also help that Tarasenko could be on LTIR for quite some time. if they really want to keep pietro, they can do it without clearing paraykos contract. the issue is probably more related to contract structure as opposed to cap hit. I'm not sure how cash wealthy or poor STL is, but i assume they would not want to give out a huge front loaded SB heavy contract which he probably wants. I dont think im gonna comment on the trade because everythings been said already
