The actual real $ is much less for Okposso. That will help your owner reach the floor

With the Chabot deal starting they wont have any issues hitting the floor.

If any of these teams were good enough to guarantee it would be pick 25-31, they might do it. Who is the best team there, pit probably? Maybe the isles if they suck all the offense out of the game? I doubt anybody does it.

The actual money is less, correct. There are a few problems though. He has 3 years of term, he would clog a spot in OTT development, and OTT is not going to have a problem meeting the floor.

Also, not all owners are as ****ty as Melnyk. Okposo isnt the worst player on this list, but it would still take a 1st to move his contract.

Nobody has to do it, for some of these contracts it makes more sense for the teams to wait it out.

ACGMs just cant pretend they can offload Neal and get a 5th back or something

Assuming all contracts would be buried for the duration of the deal (yes I realize some will definitely stay in the NHL, but they won't provide much more surplus value than the 1.05 mil extra you're paying them to play in the NHL)
Spot the difference:
9.9 mil (over 2 years)
12.6 mil (over 3 years)
23.3 mil (over 4 years, and technically can't be buried... yikes)
12.75 mil (over 3 years)
13.35 mil (over 3 years)
9.9 mil (over 2 years)
6.6 mil (over 3 years)
18.8 mil (over 4 years)
9.9 mil (over 2 years)
^those are all cap hits, idk the players actual salaries (and those wouldn't change if buried)

Some of those players have NTC so wouldn't interested in the moving to the Sens. And players on multiple years contracts, it's a bad bargain to take on crappy contracts. Use that money on real players to help your team.
Can we forget about the nonsense about Ottawa needed to hit the cap floor.

Im not just quoting them in reference to the senators, nor suggesting that any of them should come to Ottawa.

Just trying to highlight the value for other ACGMs to avoid having the same conversation in every 5th thread

u can buyout Neal for 1.9 million. very easy to trade. let's say Oilers trade him for a 4th rounder and retain 1.5.... then Ottawa trades him for a 4th and retain 1million....

Neal really isn’t a problem for Edmonton most certainly not one that warrants a first. Neal does bring value to the oilers. Top ranked pp isn’t just mcdavid and Leon’s doing. They have been running it for some time Neal shows up suddenly a noticeable spike. Oilers will be just fine holding onto him and happy about the locked in 20 goals he will provide.

To be clear, whenever I dump Okposo it is either with Ryan Johnson, Tage Thompson, and a 2nd or Okposo with up to 2 mil retained and Johnson

James Neal may be very streaky, he's definitely in decline and the speed of the game has certainly left him behind but Ken Holland will not give up a 1st round pick to off-load his contract. Regardless of how he managed to do it, scoring 19 goals was a very real and valuable contribution for Edmonton and he may be able to make a similar contribution next season. I think Edmonton may be patient with their roster and really do have to trust that players like Ethan Bear, Caleb Jones, and Kyler Yamamoto, and possibly Tyler Benson, Jesse Puljujarvi, and Evan Bouchard can develop further and therefore provide roster improvements from within. Neal can still be an effective veteran if given a limited role and some power play time. He can be bought out later, at a comparatively palatable expense, or perhaps a deal can be struck with Seattle.

He isnt a problem, but he is expensive, carries term and is older. More than half his points came on the powerplay on which he is not the driving force. As I have said in another comment, for some of the teams above, the correct choice is to sit on the bad contracts. Im just expressing what it *would* cost to move.

As I have said in other comments, im not arguing that the above teams should make these trades.

Just saying what it would cost to dump.
