I think that's the max the Kings should offer, but unfortunately there's virtually no chance the Rangers will go for it.

I don't disagree with your conclusion, but Lafreniere isn't a generational talent.

You guys are missing the point...
NYR needs centers more than wingers so they can go with Byfield while aquiring Kupari and getting rid of Staal at the same time. The main premise of the trade is not dumping Staal.

If Staal had multiple years left on his contract, maybe, but with him only having a year left I think the Rangers would rather just suffer through it for one year than trade down. I’d definitely take it if I were Los Angeles, not so much if I were New York.
