World Junior Line

Description
One way to re-ignite Puljujarvi's career is to surround him with the same group with whom he enjoyed his greatest successes. Could get top line production out of 4th line cost. Laine won't come cheap but the Jets need a 2C and a major upgrade on D. They will likely want Pesce or Slavin not Skjei. Or possibly a sign and trade with Hamilton.

All in good fun. Threw in Honka to get him back on track as well.

I hope none of this actually happens. Necas 1 for 1?!?!?!?!?! Carolina probably won't trade for Laine so that's whatever. and then a 3rd for honka when he won't even play with Dallas

The Necas trade was an over-reach. Not sure what Edmonton would accept for Puljujarvi.

That would be selling super low on Laine for 2 years of Trochek who Carolina acquired for spare parts.

I'll change that trade. Clearly not a post from a guy not knowing Necas' value.

What would you see as fair from Carolina for Puljujarvi. Just trying to get the band back together.

I get the idea of this trade an it would certainly be interesting, however i dont think much of it is overly practical.

I suspect Ken Holland and Mark Lehto are working on terms that will bring Puljujarvi back to Edmonton on a one-year deal. Holland probably wants to keep the salary around or between $1,000,000 and $1,250,000, and Lehto likely wants the player to have a legitimate shot at a top six role and a handshake agreement that his guy is traded if things don't work out.

The GM has issues with the salary cap and a need to improve his club. It makes sense to me that he may want to give J.P. an opportunity to be a solution in Edmonton, especially since it looks as though no other GM is prepared to offer up anything Holland feels is fair value. The agent wants his player back in the NHL, and the player wants to be back in the NHL. Both likely now realize that the player's value is low and the best opportunity available to them is in Edmonton. An inexpensive one-year deal works for both parties. They can re-up with a suitable salary and term if things work out. If things do not work out they will have confirmed J.P.'s value, for better or for worse, and a trade will be far less risky for all parties involved.

Alternatively, Holland will likely hold out for a trade offer that makes sense to him. In this scenario the flat salary cap, and the fact that Puljujarvi will start the season in Finland play to Edmonton's advantage. J.P. is an RFA (low cap hit) and his stock will rise if he continues to dominate Liiga while NHL and AHL players are in their respective off seasons. A mid-2nd round pick won't do it.
