The point of the trade is for Toronto to add depth & clear cap for defence. I made an armchair team looking at it from Toronto's side. Do you think they're contenders?

I'm not saying they SHOULD claim him, but if the Pens waive him, I feel a team WILL. GMs are always looking for big body smooth skating defencemen who can hit & block.

Johnson is legit one of the worst D-men in the league with an atrocious contract. Any GM that claims that contract off waivers should be sacked immediately.

I won’t be a prick about it like the rest of these clowns are, but I feel like Toronto values Marner more than any other team would. They probably ask for Murray, Rust, a 1st + for Marner (not retained.) I also think teams are gonna wanna see if Rust’s past season was merely a good year or the norm going forward before they would trade for him.

This trade is one of the worst marner proposals I’ve seen.

The issue with Jack is not necessarily his contract. A veteran top 4 D making 3.5 million is not bad. His play is horrendous, the team always gives up goals and scoring chances cuz of him. However, most GMs don't know that. They just look at his number of hits & blocks, making them believe he's a good D.

I'm not saying every team would want him, but teams like CHI & FLA need a good LHD, they may be fooled in taking Johnson.

I'm not disagreeing he's garbage. But if a HOF GM like Rutherford is dumb enough to pick him up, surely someone else will too.

I agree with a lot of the other comments that Toronto doesn't even consider that offer for Marner, especially with retention. I think Murray and Tanev would be desired by Toronto, and are available, but they could get much more for Marner so it's not really a good move by them. As for the rest, I agree with others that JJ won't get claimed probably, but Bjugstad I'd be shocked if he didn't get claimed. He's a bit overpaid, but his biggest issue is health. When he plays he's a decent middle 6 option. And I don't think Nashville takes on the cap unless they have already made a separate dump of Turris or someone else with term and salary leaves for them.

Murray is bringing back 15th overall. Book it
