I don't think you want to switch a true defensive defender to his offside. Typically that results in a reduction in ability. You definitely aren't getting Crow for $3M either.

Brodin actually prefers the right, and is fully capable on either side.

That said I hate this trade. Brodin or Dumba need to be going for a top six center. For the record Kerfoot's nowhere near close to that...... so this doesn't count.

Then throw in the Wild have only two rhs on the entire roster, of which Hartman is one.

This trade is blegh....

Wow, didn't know Brodin prefers the right side, that's uncharacteristic of true defenders

If Crawford signs for 3m it would be in Chicago.

He grew a taste for it early on in his career because he started there, on his off hand, with Scandella on the 3rd pairing. After Christian Folin got moved he played with Spurgeon on the 2nd pairing and was on the right as well. Spurge plays both sides too.

Pairings looked like this.

Suter-Dumba
Spurgeon-Folin
Scandella-Brodin

Suter-Dumba
Spurgeon-Brodin

It wasn't until Dumba got moved down to play with Brodin and Spurgeon moved up to play with Suter because we couldn't afford to have Suter continue to babysit Dumba anymore, due to our need of having a true top pairing, that Brodin moved over to his natural position to accommodate Dumba.

Whenever Spurge and Brodin get paired together, they swap back to their off-hand. For whatever reason they just play better that way.

Brodin originally played on the right side with Suter until Spurgeon came along and i have no memory of Spurgeon ever playing on the left.
Saying Brodin prefers the right is a huge stretch. He’s definitely better on the left.

Spurgeon was attached to Scandella and then Suter's hip, and doesn't play on his offhand. Brodin/Spurgeon have about 20 games total as a d-pair and the play on their dominant side. He's also been a Staple in the top-4 since before any of Suter, Brodin, or Dumba was a player for the Wild.

Brodin:
-came into the NHL playing offhand as Suter's partner for about 3 years.
-Then he got paired with Scandella for a year as the shutdown pair (his 7p season), still on his offhand.
-He played his dominant hand the next year while paired with Folin to start the season (20 games) until Folin got hurt. Then When Folin was out it was a Brodin/Dumba or Scandella/Brodin depending on the situation.
-Has been primary paired with Dumba ever since. When Spurgeon gets injured (yearly), Dumba moved to the top-pair, and Brodin gets to play whack-a-mole for partners and which side of the ice he's on.

Spurgeon is 30, Brodin is 27. Spurgeon was drafted in 2008 and we signed him after he went unsigned by the Islanders long before Brodin, who was drafted in 2011. Spurge made his debut with us in 2010, but bounced between the Wild and the Aeros for a couple of years before he stuck. Brodin on the other hand played overseas for a couple years then came over in 2012. Although he did play 9 games for the Aeros, he more or less stuck right away.

So I don't know how one could say until Spurgeon came along.

Brodin has never played with Suter A.F.A.I.C.R. I only remember him playing with Scandella, Spurgeon, and Dumba. Spurgeon slid over to take Suter's spot after he broke his leg a couple of years ago and Brodin slid up onto the right side. Of that I'm reasonably sure.

Huh?

That's probably more or less correct. However, Suter babysat Dumba for 3 years, not Brodin.

No he did not. This is when Yeo was coaching and trap hockey was what MN played. Dumba didn't have the d-zone awareness to play big minutes in that system. So he was the 3rd pair/PP guy. Goto hockeyviz, naturalstattrick, or wherever and check it out. Or simply look at the ToI/game for the seasons.

Dumba was a 3rd pair PP guy his first couple of years. They knew Dumba was a high ceiling project when he was drafted, not a day1 starter like Brodin. If they wanted the lower ceiling, day1 starter, then MN would have drafted Trouba and not Dumba.

Suter/Brodin was the top pair for MN. Scandella/Spurgeon was the 2nd pair. The only time Suter/Dumba happen is when Spurgeon gets injured and the start of the 18-19 season because Dumba was better than Spurgeon. Suter (HC/GM Suter) also starts crying everytime he's paired with Dumba and Spurgeon is healthy.

And Brodin only played 1post-draft year in 🇸🇪 and was Suter’s partner the following season as a 19 year old rookie.
