#1 choice would be Mantha. He is a hometown kid and has the size the Habs crave. I am OK giving up Struble as long as Mantha takes 3+ years in his next deal.

#2 choice would be Ehlers, and I think your return is fair. That's a good trade. However, the Habs can't really take Ehlers until they have a plan for Drouin and/or Tatar. Habs would still need to find another (ideally more talented) Armia-type player.

#3 is Brodin, and that cost isn't too high. The wildcard is just how good will Romanov be and how soon will he reach that level?

I'm not excited by the others. Kane is great, but too old and $$$$. Anderson, if healthy, is great, but I don't want to be the team waiting for him to be released from the infirmary.

As long as Domi isn’t coming to Minnesota, I don’t care what you get for him.

I think the two I hate the most are the last two, Calgary and Pitt

That is why Wings are not ready to trade Mantha as they like his size and upside. Wings probably not excited in a return that includes Domi. It creates a hole on wing with getting a center. With guys like Veleno and Rasmussen they would be a probelm with centers and no wingers.

I don't disagree with you about Mantha, but I do think both Rasmussen and Veleno are destined for winger duty in the long term. Rasmussen lacks the speed needed to be an NHL centre, but with his size and hockey sense, he'll be a clone of Mantha. Veleno's stock dropped in the draft exactly because scouts couldn't see him as a centreman and there were other players ahead of him who had shown more as wingers. Both will be good NHLers, but unlikely to be your next generation up the middle.

There is zero chance of the Ehlers trade happening. 2 years of Domi doesn't get Ehlers.

There’s been rumours that Mantha is signing for 5 years 5.5-6 mil in addition to the fact that he just bought a house in Detroit so I’d be shocked if he was available

Buying a house doesn't tend to mean much in the NHL, especially when he still comes home for the summer in Montreal. Like most companies that relocate their employees, the teams cover all moving costs and commissions, and they usually indemnify players against taking losses on real estate.

The Winnipeg and Detroit ones are the only ones Montreal would ever consider. Caufield is not going anywhere.

I agree Rasmussen as a wing is the most likely scenario. With Veleno I do think he ends up as a center because he plays a complete game. It's the reason he was granted exceptional player status. More of a set up guy and didn't put up a lot of points until his final season as a junior. Put him in between Zadina and Rasmussen and you won't have to worry about his production.

Wings pass and you owe the wings your first round pick for making the same trade as everyone else and failing
