If the Canucks moved Demko, they would be extremely stupid.

I'm game for a deal that is a Loui/Demko combo, and this was before his recent play.

I'd imagine it's Eriksson's contract that drops the draft pick here, not Demko.

Demko alone could probably go for a high second right now.

I was expecting more honestly because most posters fall under recency bias.

No, what I’m saying is that Vancouver-Detroit fans agreed on Demko + 2nd to rid themselves of Eriksson. So his two most recent games dropped it down to a third.

I like Demko a lot, and he fits the age bracket of the young Canucks core a lot better than Marky. BUT... Marky as a pending UFA has no trade value while Demko does. If he can be used as the main piece to shed Eriksson’s contract they still have to do it, assuming Markstrom extends.

So main reason for trading Eriksson is so they have cap space essentially. well if they keep Demko that resolves it because they dont have to sign markstrom to 6+ mill. so why not let him walk keep the younger goalie. and your out of your cap jam when a bunch of other contracts are up like sutter and edler....

or even better resign markstrom for this year and trade him at the deadline but not to get rid of eriksson as there is no need to and get maybe a 1st and some prospects.

Yeah as a Wings fan, I'd love to do something around Eriksson+Demko+Vancouvers 2021 3rd round pick for perhaps Detroit's 2021 4th or 5th round pick. Just not sure if Eriksson would waive to Detroit though.

The problem is that Demko will need a new contract in 2021 when Petey and Hughes get their new deals. Even if Demko doesn't get Markstrom money the team will still need to commit a comparable amount of cap to the goaltending position from then on (whether Marky + a cheaper backup or Demko + a higher quality backup/1B type). The cap savings for one year don't really matter, the real cap crunch is in 2021.

And I really doubt Markstrom agrees to a 1 year deal or a contract that doesn't have at least a modified NTC.

Im not saying to sign him to a 1 year deal it can be multi. there will be a market for him. Im saying by 2021 you will be paying MArkstrom or demko probably something similar... i would keep the goalie that is 6 years younger... sign markstrom this year to multi year contract. I would avoid the movement clause. Then VAn gives Demko a bit more time to make sure he is the real deal ready to be a full time starter if not you still have markstrom.. if he is then you trade markstrom for picks and prospects so you stay a strong team even when you ahve to pony up and pay petterson and hughs.

He would get you a 1st easy plus. you can either use that your self or use that to add at the dead line to make you a true cup contender.
