We Cant Have SamsonovVanecek

Description
I've seen a lot of ACGMs that have the Caps rolling with Samsonov and Vanecek next season. That's a bad idea for a lot of reasons. 1) We aren't positive Samsonov is ready to be a full-time starter. 2) We don't know that Vanecek is ready for a backup spot. 3) We're probably looking at a very condensed schedule for next season, which means goalies are going to burn out quicker and potentially get hurt more. If Samsonov were to go down, I'm not comfortable with Vanecek and Copley for any amount of time. It wouldn't surprise me if there's a handful of 3 games in 4 days scenarios next season, and I think that's a great opportunity to get Samsonov, Crawford and Vanecek all playing time. If we sign someone like Crawford to a 1 year deal, it doesn't hurt us moving forward when Vanecek could take the backup role. But he needs a few NHL games first.

I didn't spend any time on what the full trades would look like for Puljujarvi and Hjalmarsson, but the point is that we move out Jensen, Kempny and Panik and bring in Vatanen, Hjalmarsson and Puljujarvi. We still have some money to play around with come the deadline if we feel the need to make another move.

If Gerard Gallant was coaching this team next year, I think we have a great shot at winning another Cup. It's a team built to play with the pace and structure that he executed so well with Vegas the last couple of years that can do some serious damage in the postseason.

I was making a GM trade that has Raanta coming to Wash, Panik going back to Arizona. That would be nice.

i didnt really think about the rush schedule next season.... thinking more about it i agree that the caps would be wise to use a 3 goalie system. you are very very high on poolparty for some reason... do you think hes that much better than a guy like Sprong? to me they seem like lateral moves. i hate Hagelin on the 3rd line also he lacks all offensive ability but i guys hes a good shutdown guy

Lmfao I think McMichael will make it. I’m just messing with Krak cause he says McMichael is overrated. As a pens fan I think he’s sick but I’m also a little bias cause I have him as part of the GM game tears of joy

Agreed on the goaltending outlook. With a condensed schedule goaltending will be crucial. Oilers are very unlikely at this point moving jp. It’s just going to take a lot for Holland to pull the trigger on a move after spending a year working towards bringing him back. It’s nothing against the offer it’s just very unlikely situation at this point in time.

how are you able to be overrated before playing an NHL game? or by overachieving in juniors? seems like hes done nothing but improve his stock?

Puljujarvi still has all the talent that made him 4th overall in 2016, and I think Edmonton just kinda shafted him with his development. He looked really good in Finland this year and I think playing him with Eller on a third line is a good situation for him. I do think he's better than Sprong, more raw talent at least. If/when Oshie goes to Seattle next year, I think Puljujarvi can step into that top six role and do a good job.

Hagelin is an interesting case. He's probably better suited for a fourth line role at this point in his career, but he can be a good complement on a line where he's not the primary puck carrier. He'll essentially be the first guy in on the forecheck, contribute to cycles and jump start transition attacks with his speed. The third line is the one spot I think GMBM would want to tinker with at the deadline if we need more offense from it, but again I think Gallant could get a lot out of his skillset.

Makes sense. I'd love to see him figure it out in Edmonton, McDavid needs all the help he can get.

fair point. capitals could get Puljujarvi for 2nd and Sprong or Leason? something like that?

what would be a likely return? would you trade JP for Protas? to me that seems like it could be an overpayment from Washington but a 2nd and a solid prospect? jw on his value

Yeah I agree. McMichael has only improved his stock since draft year. Gonna have to ask @krakowitz on that one

Highly doubt Holland is shopping him at all. Spent a year cleaning up the mess charelli caused. Now that both sides seem to be close to a deal I can’t see a trade coming.

I just don't see any sort of high end quality that shows he'll be anything more than a 3C or complementary second winger. Seems like he was just a little bit faster and quicker than most of his OHL competition. I know he was a point per game player at the WJC, but I didn't think he looked particularly impressive. No doubt he'll make it to the NHL and should be able to have a solid career, but I don't see this high end player that a lot of Caps fans seem to think he'll become. Probably because we haven't had a top skater prospect in a long time, so McMichael's big breakout this year is kinda leading fans astray. His stock has definitely improved since the draft, but I'm still not taking him top-15 in a redraft.
